I'm just curious, at another site where I frequent (which is a US based site) New Zealand & Australia are viewed as 'downunder'. however as a kiwi I was under the impression downunder was aussie?
I wonder is it an outsider perception (I often get NZ = Aus, ie we are 1 country!) or did we turn what (as far as I understand) was 'aussie' to aussie+kiwi
Definately for the 'Downunder at the Dog' thread it is Aussie/Kiwi - I think for us it has been downunder means Aussie but I would think allot of people from the northern hemisphere would think we are one in the same. Was that clear as mud?

My understanding was that 'downunder' meant aussie, NZ and the various pacific islands.

This thread is actually quite topical - can you believe there is a parliamentary committee sitting around talking about whether aus/nz should be combined??? I cant believe they have nothing else to do!!
Funnily enough i heard a guy on the radio say that when the constitution was written it allowed for a merger to occur and NZ becomes our seventh state. If i was a kiwi i would be livid about that!

I fully get that here @ the dog we are using it to refer to aus+nz. I'm glad that I'm not the only 1 thinking that it was an aussie term!
I cant believe that NZ could ever be considered part of Australia thats like saying all the pacific islands near us ARE NZ. Even though he cook islands are under NZ rule there is no way they are a part of us!
