Default Dehydration

My dehydration is probably from 3 months of spiro, but can anyone tell me how much water I should be drinking on 100 mg of it? My eyes are sunken, skin is losing elasticity, and I've been to the ER once already from dehydration (when I first started the meds). I'm drinking alot of water, but somehow I don't think it's enough... I'd love to keep the androgens in check, but I don't want to look like the cryptkeeper!

I don't know about being on spiro, but I know that in general you are supposed to drink 1/2 ounce of water for every pound of body weight. For example, a 200 pound person should drink 100 ounces a day of water. THEN, you need to offset any caffeine that you drink, since that is a diuretic. So that same 200 pound person who drinks 2 8 ounce coffees in the morning, should then drink 116 ounces of water.

Some people require more water than others anyway. Docs are now saying that 64 oz a day is more than enough for the average adult who is not exercising. Water does hydrate very quickly, but other liquids count toward your intake (soups, jello, etc.)

If you are having dehydration problems, you might just need to drink smaller portions of water throughout the day rather than big amouns less often. Drink at least 8 oz with every meal and keep liquids on hand throughout the day. That's what my Dad had to do to keep hydrated. He even kept water by his bed at night and drank some throughout the night. Without extra water he would become almost fatallly dehydrated very quickly.

If you are going to be out in the sun or exercising, increase your water intake before you start.

Are you on any other dehydrating meds? What other meds and suppliments are you on?
