Smile deja vu

Hi my name is Jen and I begrudgingly join you in a diagnosis of PCOS.

I swear I joined this site years ago but after trying my email addresses in the forgotten password section, I guess I must have just browsed occasionally without joining.

I was diagnosed at 18 and over the last 4 and a half years I have gone through many stages of interest about my condition. Sometimes I am extremely enthused and want information and attempt things to help my cause, other times I pretty much deny I have it or get so down about it I ignore it.

I'm insulin resistant so taking Metformin, but that was only discovered in the last 6 months. Before that I was seeing crappy doctors that had me on weight-loss drugs that made me crazy or they told me not to worry about anything until I was trying to get pregnant (this was from 1 Gyno, 1 Endo and 3 GPs).

My dispair peaked the other week when I was admitted to hospital for appendicitis. Telling them my medical history and medication I was on I clearly told them (repeatedly) I had Insulin Resistant PCOS. Some had confused looks, others must have just pretended to know what I meant. Confusion reigned and I was noted as being Diabetic, which meant I was high-risk everything and had to stay in hospital longer, wear funny leg things post-op and have my fingers pricked every few hours for BSL monitoring. They were surprised they never had to give me insulin. Wonder why?!? lol

I am here for information and support I suppose. I think PCOS is a crappy condition to have. So much to discover, so little interest from the general medical community. No 'cure' and varying advice about its affect and how to treat it.

With regards to my "symptoms", I:
-am not hairy in fact i go through times when i have hair loss and the hair on my head is always thin and breaks easily
-have never had consistent periods
-don't ovulate
-am overweight
-have cystic ovaries
-never had acne

Hope to see you round the forum!

(I love the smilies! lol)
