Rest assured dental work is safe in pregnancy. Yes it's "safer" later in pregnancy but it's still okay during the first tri. I had a failed root canal at 9 wks this time, I had to have many x-ray's done, plus local anesthetic to redrill it out and then a temp filling was put in. I'm about to go back and have the permanent filling put in.
My ob approves xrays as necessary (the new ones, digital, use 40% less radiation than the old x-rays do), and local anesthetic is fine, as is antibiotics and tylenol 3 for pain if necessary and prescribed.
It's better and safer to have it done, than to leave it and it end up getting infected. My tooth was already infected when it started bothering me. Good luck! Call your ob if you are very concerned but chances are it's okay!
