Question Depo-Provera

Hi all.

My doctor wants to put me on the Depo-Provera shot so I will end up not having any periods at all. Does this sound like a bad idea to anyone? Has he forgotten/ignored PCOS? what about endometriosis? Help!

Thanks

I would NOT recommed that! It made my symptoms MUCH worse I gained 60lbs in three months. It total screwed up my cycles and my last shot was 6-19-99!! Just my opinion!! Lisa

Kberry, I would stay far away from this drug, it is posion......I am convinced that this is what caused PCOS for me. The side effects of the drug are similar to symptoms of PCOS, though my doc's dont agree with me about it causing the PCOS. There are currently some class action lawsuits being put together against UpJohn/Pharmicia, the makers of Depo......so that alone should tell you not to use this drug.

DON`t take depo provera.......I also gained alot of weight whilst on this drug.... I had 3 shots & it made me have alot of pelvic ovarian pain also.

When I came off it I had no sign of AF for 2.5 years then if i`m lucky 1 or 2 AF a year since, previous to depo I had long cycles but got AF every 46-60 days.

I blame the depo for totally screwing up my hormones & blowing my PCOS totally out of control.

I wouldn`t advise anyone with PCOS to even consider taking it

Hi there,

Please do not go on this poision!! I was happily on Depo for 2 years. No periods!! But at the end of the 2nd year I too Gained weight (30 pds) and now have an endless list of problems. I have been off Depo for 1.5 years and am having a terrible time TTC. I too believe that Depo contributed to my PCOS. It is the worst toxin you can go on.... Please check out

Default DO NOT!

I usually don't post if I see lots of other posts that relay the same info I intend to give. But, I feel so strongly about this horrible horrible poison, that I will offer another post.

I am also convinced that Depo-Provera may have been a contributing factor in my pcos. I mean I had absolutely no symptoms beforehand, then I went from 123 to 165 while on it, and though I've been off it for about 5 years, none of the weird symptoms have subsided and I can't lose weight!

Default I didn't have any problems on it

I had no problems on Depo-Provea.... I also have Endometrios(?) and PCOS and it didn't bother the PCOS and helped my Endo. I think it all depends on the person. I know that one of the side effects is gaining weight but, I didn't gain any.

What else has he done to help treat your endo?

Good Luck

Default Good news

Well, good news, cysters!

I left that jerk and now have a new gyno. While he is still showing some professional solidarity ("Well, it's not the way I would have gone.") He agrees that depo is not a good choice for PCOS and has prescribed me Yasmin. Wahoo!

Smile No Problems Here

Hi! I've been on depo for about 4 years. I get it every two months. The only problem I actually have is the scar tissue build up from getting the shot in my backside. I went off of depo last summer because of all the bad things I had read about it from other cysters. It was the worst thing I could have done. Depo controls my pain (along with metformin and aldactone). I don't get nearly as many cysts while on the shot as I did taking regular birth control pills. I had nearly a 50% drop in my pain level after getting the shot. After going off of it I had extremely bad pain and really long periods even while on another type of birth control pill. I'm still pretty young, so I'm not even considering children yet. I'm sure I would have a different view point if I close to having children, but for now Depo is my life saver.
