I feel left out...I used to live near Pittsburgh in New Brighton!!! I think we should brainstorm and make some noise in honor of all the CYSTERS affected by this poison.

I was told that PCOS is usually passed on by the father and if this is true does that mean he has a different strain of it? I have no ideah if anybody on my Dads side had it or not they were all dead by the time I met him but He is Diabetic, has high blood pressure and is balding. Not to mention he has bad boughts of depression and mood swings to boot I didn't meet him until I was 22 I'm now 26 and during that time he and my mother got married so she tells me what its like to live with him and the scary thing is that he sounds like all of us and our uncontrollable moods and depression along with everything else. I to also took Depo for about a year and a half and to tell you the truth I do believe it is poison does anybody else have a father like mine?
I had PCOS before I took the depo shot. I had one cycle when I was 14 and then nothing. I was told that my body was just adjusting and that everything would be ok and to just give it another year. At 17 I was Dx'd with PCOS and put on BCP's. They make me so sick! nausea, headaches, constant cramping, and I gain lots of weight on them. After trying many different types of BCP's over a year I stopped them. At that point, I would say that I had a very mild case of PCOS, the only problem I was having was irregular periods. At 20, a Doctor basically forced me into getting the Depo shot. I was going through a divorce and she convinced me that it was the right thing to do. (there is alot more to that story about my feeling of the Dr.'s incompitance, but Ill save that) I got only one and have never been the same since. I bleed for three months straight. I also passed out on my way to work, the ER doc's said I had some sort of reaction to the Depo shot. Since then, I have trouble with acne, hair in places that it should not be, weight problems, etc, the list goes on and on. Anyway, I do agree with you guys, at least if by some change it's not causeing PCOS, it is defenatly makeing it worse.
Well I must say I live in washington and I say go(SEAHAWKS) Yes the steelers are a good team but I am sorry to say it was a very bad ending that game was a joke I know we could have done better in some areas but when the Quarterback from your own team admitts that it wasnt a touchdown than you know it was bogus not to mention the bogus call for holding I know that everybody has somthing different to say depending on what team you love but even my friends who are die hard Steeler fans say it was a bogus game sorry ladys just had to have my say in this.

OMG I TOTALLY BLAME DEPO FOR MY PCOS! I was on it for 3 years, got off, then 6mos later went back on, got off after 2 shots, then went to the patch. I have been packing on the lbs ever since. We gotta find some research on this!
I guess I'm just adding to all of this. I had my first Af at 13 and it was always heavy and very painful. Every time I had bloodwork I was listed as anemic but never was helped. Doctor's treated me like a bit of a complainer so I let it go. I tried BC in college and it made me very moody. I was later diagnosed with severe depression. Then I heard about the shot. I thought it would be a great way to be sure I didn't become pregnant and to not have a period thus no more anemia or pain. I was on for about two years during that time I gained sixty pounds. I went off and haven't had a regular cylce since. It has been three years.
I didn't get diagnosed with PCOS until last month but I have had it since going off depo that's for sure. I just didn't understand why I was gaining all this weight and all in my stomach area. Why I had dark hair on my face and stomach. I hate how doctors treat you like a whiner if you bring these things up. I was nervous to ask the doctor just last week about hair removal and she acted insulted and said she "wouldn't know about those things".
Anyway my point is we all can't be mistaken. there's no family history for me either. I am just worried I'll never get back to where I was before on every level. I would never take it again. I am glad they are limiting depo now to two years b/c of osteoporosis, but that's all it took for me to get so messed up...
It is so weird to read how so many people have been through the SAME thing I have . . . Started period at age 13, always irregular with monster cramps & heavy bleeding. Went on BCP's at age 19 to help with this, everything OK. Decided to go on depo for convenience at age 22, gained 120 lbs in the 2 years I was on it. Once I realized that the shot was causing me so many problems, I stopped getting it in 2002. I never got my period back. I was finally diagnosed with PCOS in 2004 when I saw a reproductive endocrinologist, because we wanted to get pregnant. He put me on metformin and 3 months later, I finally got AF. 1 year later, I have a healthy baby boy. I'm now considering BCP's or a diaphragm for my BC needs.
Never again will I take Depo - it IS posion, and I've told every woman I know about it. I may have gotten PCOS anyway, as my dad's diabetic and mom needed clomid to get pg with me, but I know that gaining 100 lbs so quickly is what caused my body to go haywire and develop severe PCOS. Not only am I now obese (264 lbs), I have excess facial and belly hair, skin tags, and all the other fun stuff. I wish there was a way to prove the depo caused this - I would sue their a$$es off!!

When i was younger my periods were normal - i was normal - i took depo for about 6 months - then was placed on BC pills - stopped them in july 05' no periods.. thought maybe i was pg.. no period no pos test.. in oct 05 i was dxed with PCOS.... it really makes me mad how i was not told about ANY side effects before being placed on depo - all i was told was "it makes you dont have periods so you should take it".. it saddens me that i placed this crap into my body - and now i may not have a chance to be a mother because of it.

ok so for the first lady looking or wondering if depo caused or triggered the pcos, there are lots of websites that will tell you that pcos is caused from two recessive genes, it is totally 100% genetic, from what i have read. you mother and father had tohave the gene in order for you to get it, the only other thing that they can not explain is why some women who have pco, do not have pcos, because it has not been triggered, this is something they have not yet explained, one of my docs have explained this by telling me that the weight gain one may experience durning differnt times of their life could of triggered the symptoms, there are tons of information out there, just keep reading, right now, my doctor is going to be trying depo to control my pcos symptoms. hope this helps

I also wish that someone would do something to try and make an active stand against Depo. I, too, think that it was the depo that caused my PCOS.
No one in my family has PCOS, so it being a genetic disorder makes absolutely no sense for my situation whatsoever. And I actually used the depo as a form of birth control as a teenager; not because my periods were horrible or anything.
I started my period at 12 years old, was completely healthy, had mild cramping but normal, regular periods. When I was 17, I started the depo shots for birth control, because I thought it would be easier than remembering to take the pill every day.
I was on depo for 3 years. My last shot was April 2005. I got my period back in October, and it has been regular since then (that's the only thing that I've got that isn't a symptom of PCOS). I gained about 60 pounds in 2004/2005, started growing a male-like happy trail on my abdomen, began breaking out with acne (which I didn't even have when I was a teenager!)... labs came back with my hormones being all screwed up, my testosterone being high, my cholesterol high, etc...
I have absolutely NO DOUBT in my mind that it was the depo that caused all of this.
Has anyone looked into a possible class action law suit?
