Unhappy Depressed/ Rant

I don't know what to do! I know that I am only 20 years old and I am not TTC right now because I don't have a boyfriend. My boyfriend and I broke up after 3 years and now I am sad and depressed. I don't even want to date around because my heart might get broken again. I am scared that when I want to TTC I won't be able to. I want to be a mommy so bad. My mother is getting older and I want her to have grandkids.I am not very happy right now because I am single, overweight, sad and have all this hair all over my body! I hate PCOS! All of my friends are in a relationship and even my little sister is pregnant. I haven't found a good doctor and right now I am not on any meds. I wanted to be married and be thinking about a family by now. I just needed to say how I feel. I am so tired of going throught this. Can someone tell me what I can do to feel better?

hi sn3w,
please do no be depressed.
I can assure you that if you find a good doctor and start on Metformin you will automatically find a change in your body.
You are young, and with Metformin and a little discipline you can get ur body in order in no time.
Please do not think abt relationship problems right away.Trust me once u feel good about urself u can do wonders.
If ur body responds fast to the medicine u can feel the difference immmediately.
I was overweight and had very low self confidance even though i am married. But being diagnosed and put on meds changed my life.
I lost weight, excess hair thinned out and i feel great.

There are many women who have overcome these problems easily so do not worry and take a right course of action soon.
Wishing you all the best and you are in my prayers

Big ((hugs)) for you!

My PCOS really began affecting how my body looked at your age, and became harder to hide through intense dieting and exercise, so I can sympathise. Gerberas is right though, if you treat your PCOS it can help many of the symptoms for most. I once weighed 300lbs for example, at 5'4" tall and a small bone structure. By adopting a diet friendly to my Insulin Resistance, getting as much exercise as I can, and treating my PCOS with vitamins, minerals and supplements (I hope to stave off going on Met as long as I can!) I've lost nearly 140lbs. I could have lost more than that if I could exercise more (my health limits me) and if I were not on some weight gaining medications. It wasn't all that hard at all! The hardest part was starting. No lie. Losing the weight and some of the treatments I'm using are helping me to get rid of my beard and regrow some of the hair on my head that I had lost as well.

Yes, PCOS and IR (if you have it) makes it harder for us to lose weight. This is true. But it isn't impossible! Many, many ladies on the weightloss board are proof of that. I promise, if I can do it I know you could, too!

Breaking up, especially after three years, is a very hard thing. It's ok, no, perfectly normal to grieve that loss for a while. Give yourself a chance to grieve, cry, and process all of those feelings. I learned this the hard way... your next relationship stands a much better chance of succeeding if you have all of those hurts and issues worked out before starting over.

As far as TTC, you certainly don't have to answer this question, but has a doctor diagnosed you with something other than PCOS that would interfere with your fertility? I ask because I was told when I was 16, back in 1989, not to expect to have my own children as I do not ovulate thanks to my PCOS. More than one doctor told me that with my particular hormone panel there was "no way" I'd have my own children "without assistance". They were wrong!!! I do have an Incompetent Cervix (which could be dealt with), but I can indeed ovulate! I realize it must be hard for you, dealing with these feelings while your sister is pregnant, but PCOS itself doesn't rule out children. Again, a look around the forum and seeing all of the women who have had children is proof positive of that. Even if there are other issues, science is working on things and who knows what may be possible in just a few years?

I'm sorry you're feeling so down right now. Keep looking for a good doctor! That is key in helping you in your journey in fixing so many of your physical issues.
((((hugs))))!

No, a doctor has not dx me with anything else. I barely know anything about myself (ex. insluin levels, hormonal issues, etc.) b/c my doctor acts like she doesn't know anything. I really need to find a doctor to help me.

Thanks everyone for your hugs and kind words. I feel a little better today.

Default Getting Help

If you want things to change, you need to start taking steps to improve your situation.

I would suggest looking for a doctor who is a specialist -- a gynecologist or an endocrinologist. In addition to having a general physical, tell them all of your symptoms and that you want them to order the various tests that are done for checking for PCOS.

Find people around you (family, friends, clergy, etc.) who you can talk to and who will support you through these trying times. You might even want to talk to a professional about your situation.

You're a very worthy person and you need to start realizing that you are. Give yourself positive affirmations every day.

I know this might be a stupid question but what is an endocrinologist?

An endocrinologist is a specilist in all hormone related stuff in our bodies, since in PCOS hormones are whacked, an endo could diagnose it quickly and put you on the required meds to get ur hormones back in order.
There are also Reproductive Endocrinilogist (RE) who are specialist with the reproductive hormones. Most ladies here go to a RE i think.
I had a bad experience with a gyno who refused to give me anything except Provera for my PCOS to induce period every month which was ridiculous.I changed a doc immediately and now am on Metformin and feeling great.
So take ur time n get a good doc
all the best

To answer your question, and Endocrinologist is a doctor who specializes in female related issues, hormones and fertility (most). Not all of them are very informed about PCOS, but they are moreso then regular doctors and they can be the ones to help figure out what you need to be on for hormones.

I am 20 as well and feel your pain all too well. I have been in a rocky relationship on and off for more then 2 years and it finally ended, I feel the same way about not finding someone and am scared to death to try and be rejected..but I am not going to give up. I have forced myself to seek out and search information and feedback from anything I can about this disease and have seen many doctors for it, not taking no for an answer. There is alot of hope out there, and as far as the hair goes- it comes off, and finding someone to love you means they will love every flaw about you as well and be understanding. Goodluck, I hope you feel better soon.

I'm sorry you're feeling so down. I agree that a good doctor can do you a world of good. You may feel more control over your life. As far as TTC and having a relationship, it is far better to wait for the right relationship and to wait to TTC and deal with the infertility issues than to get into a bad relationship, conceive a child, and have to deal with that person because he is the father of your baby for the rest of your life. I know that's hard to think about when you feel that life is passing you by, but at 20 you've got so much living and experiencing to do still. Work on feeling better about yourself, and all the rest will come in time.

Hey Strongernow-

I see that you have had Electrolysis for hair. Has it really worked? Has anyone else had or going to have electrolysis?

I just saw this, and hon, I'm so sorry Even if the relationship was rocky, two years is a long time and it usually hurts quite a bit when it finally ends

No matter how much validation I received I always felt the same way after a breakup. What if I never found anyone else? We won't even talk about my fear of rejection! Not only did I never, ever make the first move due to this fear, but I apparently also had a very haughty bearing (that I wasn't conscious of) that many mistook for snobbery. I suppose this was my "armor" against being hurt. I later learned quite a few boys did have crushes on me, but thought I would never go out with them as I was "a snob". Imagine!!! I was so hurt, angry, confused, and devastated by that, as I'm about the least snobbish person out there. And I did conquer my fear and approach one man, and that's my current partner. If I hadn't stretched my bounderies and took a huge chance on being hurt, I wouldn't have had the wonderful relationship I've had for the past 8 years and 10 1/2 months! But how was I to know that? He could have hurt me badly! Life can be so confusing and scary at times! I'm 33 and still working on my self-esteem, but it sounds like you're far ahead of where I was at your age.

But you're doing SO much better than I was at 20! You're not giving up, and when 20 was about when I began to give up on getting treatment for my PCOS (not that there was much back then. BCP was about it). You've found your power and that's a grand thing! I've done so much to help my PCOS on my own I can only imagine what would be possible with good medical care. I hope to find the energy to fight for that myself. Perhaps you can be my inspiration!

And you couldn't be any more correct about how when you've found someone to truly love they love ALL OF YOU; beauty, flaws, and all! I truly believe with all my heart and mind that there is at least one such person out there for each of us. My partner loves me despite my extra weight, the scars, the horrid skin disease, my beard (he helped me pluck under my chin the other night! ), my stretchmarks, my saggy baggy skin from losing all of that weight, my craziness, and on and on! He isn't perfect either, and I love him just as he is. THIS, or even better, is what everyone deserves! Don't settle or compromise!

Big (((hugs))) to you! I remember your pic, and I still think you're beautiful! I wouldn't lie!
Dana

Trust me when I say that I understand. I had a 10 year marriage fall apart a year and a half ago. You will bounce back. I am overweight, and have a beard and moustache, not to mention all the hair in other places, and I have found a wonderful man who loves me and even tweezes my chin hairs for me.

Hey Abumpygal-

I feel like I might not find anyone. Thanks for the compliment but I don't feel pretty. Being with the guy I was with just made me feel so secure about our relationship. He knew about and accepted my PCOS but I feel like I won't be able to find someone that will feel the same as he felt about me. I am happy that we are still friends even though our relationship didn't work out. Hopefully one day I will find someone that will accept me for me. I am really scared that once I a begin a relationship with someone and I tell them that I have the PCOS that they might think of me differently and reject me. I believe that is why I am not in a relationship right now.
