Default depression?

hey there everyone! i'm relatively new around here, so forgive me if this question has been asked and i didn't see it. does anyone know much about the emotional/psychological effect of pcos? i've been wondering about it a lot lately.

for the past eight or nine months i've been dealing with something that i think is probably depression. absolutely nothing makes me happy or feels enjoyable anymore. it's noticable too (i've fought with my mother about it on a few occasions) but the most i ever get from anyone is them telling me to make myself cheer up.

yeah...that doesn't work.

anyway, i attributed it to three things: never seeing my friends (who are at a different university), my ever-present lack of a significant other (at my age i think i should be doing that sort of thing, right?), and of course my weight.

that's probably what's causing it. lately, though, i've been doing some reading up on a lot of different sites and a lot of them talk about depression as a symptom of pcos. my dr has never mentioned anything about it to me.

i guess what i'm trying to ask (with this ridiculously long post) is what you guys think about it being a symptom? i know that i can't blame my feeling worthless entirely on pcos, but i wonder if it's contributing to it?

You're not alone. See the stickies at the top of this forum:

Nope, you're not alone and it is something you should talk to your dr about.

Welcome to Soul Cysters

Depression is common for a lot of us. Some cysters require prescription meds. What helped my horrible mood swings and depression was calcium supplements and counseling to train me to replace negative thoughts with positive thoughts.

Hope you find something that works for you.

Nope you are not alone. Same thing with me. I don't feel like doing anything. I don't enjoy anything. I get upset for every little thing.

I am with you there. Things just seem hazy. I feel confused about the changes.
