My Mood: Points: 2,447.90 Bank: 4,612.85 Total Points: 7,060.75 | Depression / mood swings & Hashi Hi
I have been struggling with depression (mainly the sad crying type) for a few months now. My GP changed my meds from Cipramil to Lexapro. I had to up the dose about 3 weeks ago and for the last 3 days I have been crying heaps again.
Do any of you relate to this?
Wondering if the depression is linked to the Hashi or pcos?
Am I normal ????? Ok silly question
Is this usually what happens with Hashi
I dont think I am hypo yet and am taking Selenium supplements to support thyroid. Wondering if this is not enough.

My Mood: Points: 1,689.28 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,689.28 | I have Hashimoto's disease (hypothyroidism), before treatment for it depression was one major symptom (yes the crying type at times). Ask for these blood tests: TSH, Free T3, Free T4 and have your dr order one for antibodies (called Thyroglobulin antibodies, or another name is just Antithyroid Antibodies, or TPO, use these names) that would tell what's going on with your thyroid as the T3 & T4, make SURE you specify FREE for those and not TOTAL because the free is whats actually active in your blood. Trust me, if you have thyroid disease it gets worse the longer it goes without treatment, i suffered for a long time (2-3 years) |

My wife used to be on it and it turned her into a zombie. She was never "there" and she was always sad or always "blah".
One day we went on the internet and apparently this drug has caused suicides and crazy depression problems. Do some searching on google about Lexapro and decide for yourself. I chose to not have the chance of my wife killing herself because of a stupid drug that was supposed to help her.
Sorry if this sounds so negative or 'fanatical' but after doing alot of research we've come to the conclusion that this drug hurts more than it helps.
Oh, also DONT STOP IT COLD TURKEY. That can cause serious problems.

He reakons that I dont have Hashi because I am showing antibodies but my thyroid is still doing ok.
These are my BW result as of Dec 06:
TSH 1.57 Normal range
(0.50 - 3.50)
I am sooooooooo over all of this. Doesn't anyone know anything!!!!!
AS to Lexapro - I dont think that its having those side effects on me. I xnow certain people just dont mix with some antidepresants - a friend had the same effect as your wife with one tablet of Cipramil

My Mood: Points: 4,879.40 Bank: 19,697.43 Total Points: 24,576.83 | Your thyroid levels seems fine, but the depression could be a symptom of PCOS. PCOS and thyroid disease have many common symptoms so sometimes it's difficult to sort them out and see who's responsible! I was treated for depression for 3 years before I was found to be hypothyroid, then was treated for both for another 3 before it was found that I had thyroid cancer (PCOS was discovered in those 3 years). Since my thyroid issues have been resolved, I have had no problems with depression. Thyroid dysfunction was the culprit for me, but during those 6 years we found that meds + therapy worked best. I hope you have a doc and a therapist that will help get you to the root of your depression, whether it is a result of PCOS or a different hormone imbalance. Having a great health care team on your side is half the battle!
Hang in there!
