Default Depression, PCOS, and dating...

Wow, I feel like ive been posting like crazy today. Ive been a member for a while, but its only recently that I have really come to stop living in denial about my PCOS.

One of the biggest problems I have is the depression. I feel like, more than any of the other problems, depression is the one that messes with my life the most. Because of it, I've had a problem forming lasting relationships in my life (romantic or otherwise). The fact that I have few friends, leads me to feeling lonely and more isolated...which certainly doesnt make things better.

I am currently in a relationship, and my partner tries hard to understand what I go through, but I know he struggles with it. I appreciate how much he tries though, even if sometimes we can't get it together.

I don't like taking more medication than I have to, and I was wondering what some of you cysters were doing to help battle the depression. I'm looking into taking yoga or dance right now...because I feel like having a physical activity thats just for me might be helpful. I'd love to hear how you ladies deal with all this

Exercise is definitely good for controlling depression. I got into belly dancing for a while and found it really helped me to feel feminine.

If you want to add nutritional supplements, a B complex and a flax oil/fish oil are good places to start. Not to mention they are good for other symptoms of PCOS, like high cholesterol and fatigue. I also take a magnesium supplement before bed, to help relax the muscles.

Good for you on wanting to take care of yourself! Best of luck.

I have fought depression for years, both clinical and situational. I am currently taking lexapro and lamictal to help control it. I am hoping that I won't have to take both of them forever. It is nice to have found something that works for now. I still have my moments though, lol.

Exercise is really great for depression. Also I found volunteering helped me a great deal. Getting out of the house and meeting new people really does wonders. I'm kind've shy so I was really nervous about it at first, but eventually that went away and it was really rewarding. Plus, I felt good because I was brave enough to try something new.

Also I went to my doctor and we tried a few medications until I found something that really worked. I know a lot of people aren't too keen on taking psychotropic meds...but they really worked for me!
