I am kinda new here, but I was just sitting here at home going stir crazy in my mind. I just need some ppl to talk to who are in the same boat as I am. I am just not sure if I am "rusing" in to things.
My husband and I have been married for 5 months. I am almost 26 and DH is 31. We both want kids!! We have been trying for 5 months. My doc says that he is 99.9 % sure I will never be able to get pregnant on our own. I have been on metformin for several months and I take progesterone 200mg for as long as I can remember. My doc said that any "regular" person should be pregnant by now with the timing of intercourse we have. He wants to do an u/s soon to see if I actually in fact might be ovulating - which he is positive that I am not. He wants to do the u/s tho for insurance reasons + documentation reasons. He then talked to me about starting clomid. I am not oppose to this medication, but I just dont know if we are "rushing" into this. I mean we have only been trying for 5 months. Some ppl go on trying for years and years. My hubby is all about me taking this medication cause he is sooo ready for a baby. I am kinda aprehensive because what if it doesnt work. And do you think we should keep trying for longer since its only been 5 months? But then what if the u/s proves that I am infact NOT ovulating. Should I go ahead and start seriously considering the clomid? My doc did also mention possibly doing a laproscopy before starting the clomid (cause after you start clomid - yur insurance says bu-bye and doesnt want to cover anything after that) just to see if there is anything else going on with my ovaries. I am so confused/stressed. I mean what do you all think? Are we rushing? Anyone else start clomid after not trying for very long? anyone else get u/s to see if they were ovulating??? Any advice/help would be soooo appreciative!!!!!!
I went on clomid after my husbad and I had only been trying for 8 months. My doctor checked my hormone levels through a series of blood tests that showed I wasn't ovulating on my own. There was no point to continuing to try naturally if my body wasn't cooperating. Once we knew, I started metformin and clomid and was pregnant the following month.
Well, starting medication is a personal choice really.
Personally, we have decided to try naturally for a while. By charting temps and checking CM and what not. If you do that, you can see for yourself if you are ovulating.
They say that a normal couple only have a 20-25% chance of getting pregnant each month, so in my opinion 5 months isn't really that long. But, knowing the problems that PCOS gives us, there is no reason that (if you wanted to) you could try and speed up the process with Clomid.
I don't think it's rushing...but I don't think it hurts to try naturally either. I never got an U/S, but that is definatly a good idea. It could give you some insight into your ovulating situation.

Age 27 Dx: PCOS in 1995 at age 13, Diabetes in October 2005 BFP: Nov. 17/09
After not trying, not preventing for a year, we started actually TRYING. I was put on Metformin for for 3 cycles. OB said if not PG, then we would move to Comid. Well after month 1 of Metformin, i decided to try Soy. Soy got me to O!!, I took it again for a second month, and added Vitex to the mix and got a BFP! I would maybe try Soy?? Before thinking too hard about anything, see how your u/s goes! You may actually be O'ing on your own!

TTC #1 08/08 2nd round Clomid 50mg CD4-8 O'd CD 17! BFP 1st Beta 14dpo 147! 2nd Beta 16dpo 438!
I am on my second round of Clomid 50mg days 5-9 and I just found out today that Im pregnant! Weve been trying for 2 yrs.... but had I known it was going to take that long, I wouldve done it sooner. Some women dont ovulate on Clomid. It takes some women years of being on meds to actually get pregnant. All different sorts....
I say start now.
PCOS is not always "easy" once you get on meds.
God bless your TTC journey!!

Thankyou all for the advice! I have calmed down and decided just to take it one step at a time!! I cant wait to my u/s to see if I am ovulating!!! To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
Nicole ~ They can tell you are ovulating because they can see your follicule and they can see if it has already ruptured. But its only on specific days of your cycle they can see it. As far as the CM every women is so different. Only seeing 1 day of clear stretchy could be normal for you! As for me...well, I have clear stretchy mucous all the freakin time - so that is where the consistency comes in. Did or do you take a class to learn how to correctly identify your CM?
Chelsea ~ Congratulations on your pregnancy!! How exciting!! Keep us posted on how you are doing!! You must be over joyed!! To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

Do you know on what cycle days they can use an u/s to tell if you ovulated? My dr is doing an u/s on CD 21, he said it was to see the corpus luteum, is he checking for ovulation?

Heather ~ I am quite confused on that myself!! I thought I was suppose to go in durning my peak CM time, so I did. The u/s tech was confused on why I was there...she said they usually check on day 5 to see if you are ovulating. I am so frusterated.
I would ask your doctor. They might be checking the thickness of your uterine lining. Keep us posted!! To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

Checking for the corpus luteum is checking for ovulation. The corpus luteum is what the follicle turns into after the egg has left the building, so to speak.

We decided in Jan 08 that we wanted to start TTC in Aug 08. I'd already been Dx with PCOS, and I'd already tried to see if Metformin would regulate me, off BCP...didn't work. I was also already seeing an RE as my GYN for treatment of PCOS though not TTC.
Talked with him and he said, I wouldn't conceive on my own, since we already knew I didnt O. After learning Met didnt work, I went back on BCP till Aug 08. He had us try for two months, then we went straight to Clomid.
As you can see from my sig, it took us over a year to conceive, and that was with IVF. We were definitely ready to SERIOUSLY try, though, once we started. I was overwhelmed with teh quickness I moved from Clomid to injects, at first, but I'm glad the RE was on the lookout for me. I was nonresponsive, so 2 or 6 cycles of Clomid wouldn't matter.
I'd resolved myself that medical intervention was necessary. I'm glad we didn't wait, but that's because that was what was right for us. We would have loved to have conceived last August, right away, so it was hard to wait the 13 months for our first BFP.
