Hi everyone!
After I was diagnosed with PCOS I told my sister to go get checked out. At the time she was on the Pill and they did not detect anything. Her symptoms are very similar to mine; thin hair, excess facial hair, etc. Do you think because she was on the pill they did not diagnose her properly? Her ob/gyn told her not to worry about it until she wants to have kids. Did anyone have to get off their birth control pills in order to get properly diagnosed?

Don't know if you had any responses, but jsut so you know, my doctor said BCP's can definitely screw up the labs. SO she definitely coudl have it and not be diagnosed until she goes off. I would tell her to go to a RE and get a vaginal ultrasound to see if she has cystic ovaries. They are more knowledgeable. And personally I'm of the frame of mind to take care of it now at least treat it and try and reverse affects, so when you do want kids it hopefully won't take as long.

Hi Kristina,

You sister would have to go off her BC in order for them to get accurate results from blood tests. I too was on BC and had to come off for 5 days before they even did the blood work.

Yep. Doc said being off the pill was the way I finally was able to be diagnosed. All hell broke loose, but finally I was diagnosed.
