Default Dex and bruising

Has any taking Dex noticed that you seem to bruise more than you did before taking Dex? I rarely bruise, but lately since starting Dex at the end of October, I've noticed I've gotten a couple of bruises..bruises that I don't even know how I got. Anyone else have this?

Also..just to speak my praises of this drug..back in October my DHEAS level was 525 after taking dex for 30 days, my level went down to 137(normal range and where the dr wants it for TTC)!!! YAY! My dr has started me on Clomid this cycle. I started taking Clomid last night.

I've been on dex since April and now that you mention it I have noticed a few more bruises then before I was on it. Nothing major but I was like you and never used to bruise so even the few I've noticed is a few more than I used to get. I don't think it's anything to worry about at least for me because I'm only talking about maybe five bruises since April but I wonder if it's because of the dex. You've given me something to think about . Congrats on your dheas level! GL w/ the clomid and babydust!!

Thanks for the response.

I've had 2 bruises on one of my arms that I have no clue how I got them. they were in such odd places. Maybe it is the dex. I had another one on my knee..but I knew how I got that one cause I slipped on a freshly mopped floor at work..just didn't expect to get as big of a bruise as I did. I'll have to ask my dr when I go back next week.

OH wow! I have to totally agree! I JUST told dh last week that I think the dex is causing me to bruise! I have been on it since Aug. and I have noticed tons of bruising esp. lately! How many mg are you guys on? I am on .25 right now, down from .50. My levels are in the normal range now...was at 146 last week when checked! Now I just need to get pg so I can get off of this stuff LOL

Congrats Misty on your levels coming down! Looks like Dex worked for both of us pretty fast. Yes, no we just need to get PG so we can get off of this stuff! I started Clomid on Sunday night, so hopefully it will do the trick! I'm on .5 mg of dex once a day. When my dr told me my level was in the normal range now, I asked him if my dose/or dose frequency needed to be adjusted and he said no to just keep taking it the way i had been. I asked if there was any concern that it could continue to decrease my level and make it too low and he said no that once it got down to normal range it wouldn't go lower. Does this sound right???

It makes me feel better to know that I'm not the only one noticing more bruising than normal for me. Maybe it is the dex!

Tracy- your Dr. is WRONG! It will continue to get lower, and actually can get too low! When I took it before, to get pg with my daughter, mine got too low, so my RE had to adjust my level so it would rise up a little bit. My level then had started out close to 1000, got down to 86!! That was TOO low! She at the time at me taking .50, so changed my dose to .50 one day and .25 the next. This worked to higher it because I also ended up getting pg that month. Another concern is, my endo (not the same Dr. who put me on it before) is not checking my coristol levels in conjunction to checking my dheas. I know that dex can supress the coristol level, and thats not good. Infact, when my level got down to 86, my coristol level was also suppressed, so thats another reason to adjust my dose. My RE said something that she was VERY inaccurate about when I was on dex the first time. She said, once the level is down, it will stay down even if you come off dex. Well, thats obviously inaccurate because my level was back up to almost 700 this time. Anyhow, GOOD luck and I hope clomid does the trick for you!

I'm only on .5 mgs every other day. My dheas level wasn't that high (only 293) so my dr didn't want me on a very high dose. I need to have him retest my level because he hasn't tested it since I started the dex. I was surprised when I called for more refills that they didn't want to do bloodwork. I have an appt on the 29th so I'll ask him then.

When I asked my dr about if there was a risk of the level getting too low if I continued to stay on the same dose and frequency and he said that no, that it would not go any lower now that it was in the normal range, I was pretty skeptical as this doesn't sound right to me. Hopefully I'll get PG this cycle but in the event that I don't, I plan to ask him to check my level again and also my cortisol level too. He didn't check cortisol either. While I am impressed with this dr, and think he's pretty on top of things as far as helping me to get PG and diagnosing why I have had extremely irregular cycles for 20 years now(where as other dr's just blew it off or told me it was probably in my genes to be irregular), I'm not sure if he's completely up on PCOS. He seems to have a pretty good grasp on it but he still has yet to check my insulin levels or put me on Met, which the majority of people w/ PCOS seem to be on.

lots_of_dots.....I'm also surprised that when you called for refills that your dr's office didn't want to check your levels first. How long have you been taking dex?
