Ok ladies I need a little help here.....My dr. has put me on dexamethasone along with clomid. Everyone I have talked to has never even hear of dexamethasone and that has me a little freaked out. I know I probaly shouldnt question my dr.'s judgement but I'm concerned. I know its a steroid but thats about all I know about it....that and the side effects none of which are very pleasing...but luckly I have yet to have any of those YET!! If any one has been on this stuff or has heard of it and can shed some light on why the heck I would need to be put on it I would be greatful!!!!
No, no kind of infection, or pain or anything else like that. He has just coupled it with the clomid for some reason thinking that will help the clomid work. I was on clomid alone about 2 years ago and by its self it didnt work and he was aware of that.
But...my dr. has a bit of a temper and scares me a little so we dont have the greatest dr/patient relationship......So I dont get the nerve to ask many questions.
hi,
im on steroids too, but im on prednisolone not dexamethasone, as far as im aware the steroids lower testosterone levels in the bloodstream, my bloodtests have now come back all normal, ive been on them for 2 years, im ok on them but do get a lot of stomach problems and was told you can only stay on them for a limited time. what dose are you on? im on 2.5mg in the morning and 5mg at night, but the doctor told me last week its still a very small dose enough to keep my body ticking over, but i do know people with asthma can take 80mg.
First of all, dexamethasone and prednisone are the same thing. I was on it for almost two years while taking clomid. I never responded to clomid by itself. When the prednisone was added, I had hit and miss ovulation! If I'm not mistaken, it helps the clomid to work better by surpressing some of your male hormones. I never experienced any side effects while on this medication and I was on it for quite a while.
If you are still worried that this med is out of the ordinary for your situation, please post your questions on the TTC board. There are lots of women over there who are on it now or who have been on it!
Good luck!

MEDS:
1500 mg Glucophage
2nd cycle of Repronex (3 amps)
Too many cycles to count of 150 mg Clomid with hit and miss ovulation
5 mg Prednisone
I have prednisolone which is the same as dex. I've been on it nearly 1 year, and do feel some what better since starting it. It lowers testosterone, or so I understand it.
Hope this helps
Eva

The adrenal gland can make male hormones, especially DHEAS. If the DHEAS level is elevated, the addition of dexamethasone has been shown to improve the response to clomiphene.
Dexamethasone is a synthetic steroid and can worsen the body’s ability to metabolize sugar (promote glucose intolerance) and is not ideal for patients with insulin resistance.
