Hi, I was wondering if your Doctor is in Boston? The adrenal specialist? I originally was diagnosed with LOCAH, but with more research on PCOS, Dr. New in NYC told me I had PCOS. Now Doctors want to take me off Dex in order to aid in weight loss; however, I lost weight when I went on Dex, but plateaud. Since then I am unable to take weight off. I have been to various GYNs who say I don't have PCOS, then the Endos say I don't have LOCAH but I have PCOS. I was diagnosed in 99 so this has been a long and frustrating process. Just searching for new advice. Thanks!

Danielle

Danielle,

I have a similar situation as you ... my first Endo said PCOS, my second Endo said 'Adrenal Disorder', and now my third Endo (The Adrenal Specialist) is saying that I have a rare type of problem that just doesn't fit into any categories, but shares the most symptoms with PCOS. He thinks PCOS is a 'garbage can diagnosis' though. His name is Dr. Richard Auchus and he is in Dallas, TX at the UT Southwestern Hospital. My first Endo was in Boston though, when I was going to school there. She has moved on to CT I think, but she was definitely in the PCOS camp.

I'm curious about your story though - do you have high DHEA-S? What other wacky hormone levels do you have? Thats what started my whole ordeal - high DHEA-S. My other major problem is that I had a severe estrogen deficiency (think pre-pubescent level, and I'm 20 years old). My second Endo was saying that I had a mild from of LOCAH, but I've done the 17OH test twice and its came back negative each time. I've also done a gazillion blood tests, urine tests, dex suppression tests, a pituitary MRI, an ultrasound, and an abdominal CT. Crazy to think I STILL don't have a solid diagnosis.

Currently I'm weaning off of Dex. and taking Yasmin and Spiro. Weaning off of Dex has been hard, I keep getting muscle/joint aches and mood swings. I'm so hoping that the 20 lbs I've gained will come off someday soon though . I am scared about being completely off of Dex though, since it completely suppressed my Testost and DHEA-S levels so that my hair loss and acne/oily skin problems were almost gone.

Well I would be interested to hear about your story/path. It is comforting to know there is another person out there caught in this confusing Adrenal vs. Ovarian mess.

Default Hi There...DEX Posting

Hey! You have no idea how I feel! Well, I guess you do!!!! I finally have met someone with almost the same experience. I would love to tell you my whole story. Do you have email? I hate to put my address on this site. I am going to try and start a new thread re: Adrenal vs. Ovarian to see if there are others. This is amazing to one, know you are not alone and two, know there are others who believe you! You have experienced the same situation as I have except for the estrogen component. If I can't get your email, search for the Thread and I will post my full story there. I would love to talk to you! I wish you all the best with going off of Dex. I went off of Dex (I have been on .25mg since 1999) to be tested for Cushings b/c I had one cortisol test that was really high. I lost my hair, my hair became oily and I gained weight. I wish you all the best and I know how difficult and draining it can be. Your energy level is so low. Thanks again for the posting. I am sooooo happy and relieved to know there is someone else out there and I am not making this up!
