Question Diabetes

I wonder if I have diabetes symptoms. I sleep and am tired so much of the day (18 hours). I pee every two hours. I am addicted to sweet stuff. I am thirsty alot. My hands fall asleep all day long for no reason. I wonder if since being on Met. I am now diabetic?????
I was tested for diabetes before and it came back negative. What do yall think???

It wouldn't hurt to get tested again (how long has it been since your last test?), and it would be a good idea to get a home glucose monitor and test yourself at different times of the day to see what's really going on with your blood sugar. If you've only had a fasting glucose test (the usual screening for diabetes), it may not give the whole picture. For instance, you can have normal fasting glucose levels yet have blood sugar spikes after eating. The only way to tell is to take your blood sugar 2-3 hours after eating.

That said, many of your symptoms could be side effects of Met. I am thirsty all the time on Met (it has a dehydrating effect, and you are supposed to drink a lot of water when you are on it). Met can also make you very tired. Met will not give you diabetes, though.

ask for a glucose tolerance test, and a fasting insulin study (or cpeptid). That will tell you if you're diabetic or not. My fasting glucose was 125, boarderline, but doing the glucose challenge I failed BIG. Thus my diagnosis of diabetes.

good luck

Default diabetes?

i would also suggest you request a fasting glucose level. some pharmacies have cheap monitors and i would suggest you get one a test after a meal too. are you extremely thirsty for cold water. i mean i'm diabetic and before i knew it i was so thristy i would drink a 16 oz glass of ice water and no sooner had my son handed it to me and turned around i had it down and was requesting more. this went on all my waking hours. i was also in the bathroom constantly. so yes i would suggest you get tested again.

My only symptom of diabetes was urinating often... I'm talking I was up 2 or 3 times a night to go the bathroom. I'd casually mentioned it to my gyn (who was dealing with the pcos) and he ordered fasting insulin and fasting glucose levels... low and behold I'm type two diabetic.

take care

Hi all

I'm diabetic two, dx 3 years ago this August. My blood sugars were always high and i was forever drinking and then living in the loo lol. I take oral meds but as well as these i inject insulin as of last week. For the first time in 3 years my glucose levels are under 10 mmol/l.

Some days i was so tired i could barely lift my head off the pillow !! I'm now hoping to get my life back

Take care

Lin
