Question Diabetes and BCP complications?

Hey, I readin on e of the posts about bcps that it can be dangerous to take it if you are obese or have diabetes. Has anyone else been told this? Are any of you on bcp's? I went to the Dr. yesterday for the first time, and she recommended either bsp;s, progesterone treatments, or diabetes medicine. I am type 2, but I do not want to use diabetes meds, so I was thinking maybe bcp, but then i saw that it can increase your risks if u r diabetic. Now i dont know what to do

Pardon me, but did you just say you are already a Type 2 diabetic? What are you using to treat that? Exercise and diet alone? Are your glucose levels under control?

You need to give us more info here.............what is the reason you want to try birth control pills? Do you want contraception? Do you want to control the symptoms of PCOS? Do you want regulated periods? Answers to those questions will make a difference.

Please tell me you aren't hoping that the Pill will help with your diabetes. It won't, at all, and conceivably, might raise your glucose levels, though probably not terribly significantly.

It is not necessarily dangerous to take the Pill if you are obese or have diabetes. It is indeed dangerous if you have untreated high blood pressure, or are a smoker, though. And your age matters as well.

At any rate, your first priority needs to be controlling your diabetes, and if your doc thinks you should take medicine to do that, you should really listen to the doctor. Your decision to take the Pill should be secondary to treating the diabetes.

And yes, I am a type two diabetic, and I take Alesse, to control the male hormone related cosmetic symptoms of PCOS, and to counter the risk of ovarian cancer, which runs in my family. But, if I had to choose between which medication to take, I would take the diabetic meds in a heartbeat.
