How do you feel if you eat something that has sugar in it or if you eat too many carbs?

PCOS diagnosed 03/03
Hypertensive Heart disease - dx'd 03/07
Left Ventricular Hypertrophy - dx'd 03/07
Metformin 2000mg/day
Dermatographia (a type of hives, cause unknown)
Longest time gone without AF - 10 months
Fibromyalgia (dx'd 7/07)
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (dx'd 7/07)
Glutathione/ATP injections :
Pulmonary Obstruction (dx'd 3/5/08)
Inhomogeneous Endometrium (2/08)
The reason I ask this question is because I have not been diagnosed diabetic, but when I eat carbs and sugar I feel absolutely terrible within about 30 minutes, sometimes less. I get brain fog, sleepy, can't concentrate, and I just plain feel terrible. Just wondering if this a diabetic thing or something else.

I feel exactly the same...I feel like my brian is swimming and that I am going to pass out and get incredibly sleepy. It is a "diabetic" thing but can also just be from your sugar getting too high after meals. If you are going to eat those high carbs/sugar, help reduce the effects by eating protein with them.
I dont think you have to be a diabetic to feel that way after a carb overload. Does it happen when you have protein with meals also?
I am diabetic and I rarely get that feeling, I usually only feel that way if I dont eat anything then the first thing I do eat is high carb/high sugar.
But since you have PCOS, it would not hurt to be checked regulary for
diabetes.

I have Diabetes & I always have brain fog & poor memory. When I cut my carbs even to 30 a meal & eating 6 times a day, I feel sick & tired & down. But when I eat carbs, even a lot, I feel energized & really good.

It happens no matter what I eat! For example, it happened to me when I ate a salad with chicken, cheese, and veggies and drank water!
It's a huge problem. I'm scared to eat lunch at work because I just know I'm going to feel bad the rest of the afternoon.

I have the same problem with whatever i eat other than breakfast and dinner, the other 4 just leave me sooo tired even if i just have a single apple. I've tried really hard to do the 6 small meals thing but it's just not working, I end up feeling tired and down and this past week my blood sugar has been around 200 no matter what I eat. I only found out I was diabetic and had PCOS 3-4 months ago and now I've finally got used to the side effects of Glucophage it seems to have stopped working.

I feel the same way when I eat high-glycemic carbs. Low-glycemic foods don't affect me as much. I thought it was just me, though!

I am quite sensitive to sugar in things, it doesnt have to contain much for my sugars to go into orbit. Sometimes it is not as bad a reaction and I get a headache and feel a little brain fog, othertimes I cant stay awake and fall asleep. I was in Berlin over the weekend and fell asleep on the train and again in a cafe. I had my regular insulin shots but my sugars have been screwed for the past 7 weeks as I have had flu which lasted for about 6 weeks, and I have also stopped taking my metformin to see if it was that which made me tired all the time. I am going to have to go back on it though to get my sugars back to a normalish level, my body needs the metformin to make my insulin receptors responsive to the insulin.
I also can get quite forgetful and not with it when my sugars are high or low, and also get very agitated. I know some non diabetics who eat too many carbs can feel funny, i think its just the way your body reacts to carbs and sugar.. some of us it makes feel really bad and others are fine, but hey thats life...

Are you taking a b-complex vitamin!!!!!!!! Metformin users are known to feel this way (tired and sleepy) because the met depleats your b vitamins. I take my met XR every morning with my b vitamin and I'm great. The first month getting used to the meds I was tired, but it went away. I didn't even try taking met without a b-vitamin because i had heard of this. HOPe this helps!!!!

I feel totally awful if I eat loads of sugars or carbs. I am tired, sometimes dizzy, sluggish (like I really need to sleep a lot), and I often get headaches and severe mood swings. Basically, my body is saying to me "SEE, I told you not to eat that crap, but did you listen? Noooooo, so now you PAY! MUAHAHAHAHA!". Seriously, doesn't anyone else's body say miserable stuff like that? Maybe it's just mine.
And still, I eat that junk anyhow, knowing it's going to make me feel totally useless. Why, you ask?
