Default DIABEX XR - metformin extended release

Hi,

I am just wondering whether anyone in Australia is on DIABEX XR - metformin extended release.

What amount are you on?
How do you take the tablets and how many? ie all together or one with every meal?

Most of all - did you experience any side affects and for how long for?

I Started on Wednesday night. I had one 500mg tablet straight after dinner and have not had any real side affects yet.. Might go up to 2 a day next week or week after....

Hi Sarrah. I was on 2000mg a day - 2x1000 morning and night. I had no side effects at all other than ovulation ;-)

ETA: I stepped up over 4 weeks...500 at night for the first week then 500 morning and night, then 500 morning and 1000 at night and week four was 1000 morning and night. And after food so it wasn't on an empty stomach

Heya Sarrah.
I took 1500mg (even though not insulin resistant) to try and help me o. I had terrible side effects from it - felt really dizzy, bloated, nauseated, lots of needing to run to the toilet very quickly..... and vomiting. I guess everyone reacts to it differently - but my body didn't like it at all.
I suppose the one good thing from taking it was that I completely lost my appetite. There wasn't a single inch of me that was hungry at any stage!
Best of luck x

Hi Sarrah! I take Diabex XR 1,500 mg /day (1 with breakfast, 2 with dinner) and I haven't had any side effects. I used to take regular metformin and I had terrible side effects so this is working out a lot better!
