Question Diagnosed Backwards??

Hi everyone,
I have been reading so many posts on this website and I'm so happy that I found it. What a great resource. I was just diagnosed with PCOS last week. However, my situation seems a little bit different from others and I was just wondering if anyone had my experience. I was on BCP and having consistent break through bleeding. It would occur the 3rd week of my cycle before 4th week of my period. This had been going on for about 6 months. My OB thought that I might have a polyp so I had 3 sonos which did not show a polyp. She did see alot of cysts on my ovaries. Then she did this horrible test where a balloon was inserted into my uterus and inflated with water and then a sono was done at the same time to get a better view of what was going on. SO PAINFUL. That didn't show anything either. Finally, she ran blood tests and those came back out of whack. My insulin levels were fine as well as my thryoid. The other levels were off... So she said that the blood work was conclusive with PCOS. Ok, two things here. WHY did she not save me the trouble of that horrible test and just do the bloodwork right away? Anyhow, that was my story. Can't say it's been pleasant.. Can anyone relate?
Hope you have a great day!
Julie

Hi, Julie. Welcome to SC. I did not have the same situation as you with the BCP, as I've been ttc for about 2-yrs. The painful test you described sort of sounds like a HSG. That is where they insert a catheter, inflate a balloon, and inject dye into your uterus & take an x-ray to see if the dye was able to flow out of each of your fallopian tubes. This is done to make sure you do not have a blockage. As long as it's not blocked, you should be able to release an egg once they have you ovulating normally. Most people that I've talked to with PCOS, especially those ttc have had HSG done. It is a standard procedure. I had it done, too. Yup...it was painful! Anyway, I hope that you are on your way to getting control of this. Good luck.

Carrie,
Thanks for your advice. I don't know what the test was called but they didn't inject a dye-- in was an in office procedure. The balloon was inserted and blown up and then they looked ont he sono screen for abnormalities. Whatever it was, I'm glad I'm not the only one who did not think it was fun!! Thanks for your reply. I appreciate it.
