Points: 1,374.00 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,374.00 | Diagnosed on Monday, given Rx for Clomid today! Does this seem strange to anyone? I went to the Dr. on May 6 and had some blood drawn to do some tests. My Dr. called on Monday, (May 12) and told me they were positive for PCOS. She told me that since i was TTC I should get on Clomid, so she called in an Rx for me today! Is that too fast?? Should she have run more tests?? At my visit on May 6 she gave me Provera to have a period, since I haven't had once since the beginning of March. Also, she wants me to take the Clomid on days 5-9. Is there any rule about that? I saw several girls on here that are taking it 2-6 or 4-8. Does it make any difference?? Thanks for any advice you can give.

Points: 425.15 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 425.15 | hi If your doctor is an OB/GYN or a GP it does not seem strange that she would prescribe clomid so fast. An Re on the other hand wold would to do the full work-up and keep you monitored. Most ob/gyn would try clomid alone first and then maybe add met or up your dose then if all that fails refer you to a RE or do more tests. If you're uncomfertable with anything speak to your doctor, if not don't worry about it after one cycle you could always go back to her or change doctors if you're not satisfied with her.
I got prescribed Clomid after my first visit and just a few tests to comfirm Pcos. I was put on provera then clomid. My first dose was 50mgs cd2-6. that cycle i got pregnant but with a blighted ovem, no doubt due to this early dose causing me to ovulate on cd 11 (long story). My two other cycles were cd5-9 I ovulated on cd 16 and if you look at my sig you'll see the results!!!!
It does matter when you take it but not to all women, cause i know of people who had no problem with taking it cd2-6 or 3- 7. I think it has something to do with your reason for not ovulating or not ovulating properly.
Like there are some women who have very few periods a year and ovulate a few times a year too, there are other's who may have one period a year or none at all, and early dose would work better for the later group wheras a later dose will work better for the first group because eggs are being matured but just not release regularly. So an early dose is like a "stronger" dose and a later one is a little "jump start" for your cycle.
So I'm saying all this to say this: your dose of cd5-9 is just fine for you, you could also ask your doctor to explain this better.

Points: 814.77 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 814.77 | Hi, I visited the consultant on 2nd June 2003. He immediately prescribed me clomid to take on day 1-5. I was permitted to start on 2nd June as day 1 of 5 although that was in fact day 2 of cycle. My GP has carried out 1 blood test and there was no other investigations apart from me telling him my cycle dates.
I have since diagnosis investigated the whole PCOS thing and have started to Low Carb through the zone diet. He did not suggest IR testing but when i went to my gp on day 20 of cycle for blood tests to see if i ovulated i asked the nurse to send a blood test off for IR/diabetes.
I have read about the other herbal remedies/supplements which can help but am not sure whether I sure take them while taken clomid or just leave it to ask the consultant when I see him for review in 3 months.
Is anyone else taking herbal remedies/supplements with clomid such as the following. I have just cut and paste it from a page i found on the internet elsewhere.
Supplements
Chromium: 400-600 mg daily will help to balance out your sugar levels and decrease cravings. Chromium is essential to metabolizing glucose and should be placed on the ‘MUST HAVE" vitamin list. (Take 100-200 mg with each meal.)
Inositol: Some experts believe an inositol (D-Chiro-Inositol) deficiency causes women to become insulin resistance. Take 1200 mg daily to ensure proper blood sugar processing.
GLA: 240-480 mg daily can decrease insulin sensitivity.
Vitamin C: 500-1000 mg 3 X a day is great for the body overall.
Magnesium: 250 mg 2-3 X a day can decrease many PCOS symptoms.
Vitamin B6, B12, and folic acid deficiencies can inhibit fertility. Eat high B foods such as green leafy vegetables, legumes, whole grains, fruits, fish and skim milk and take a B-Complex vitamin daily.
A daily multi-vitamin does the body good.
Iron: A large iron deficiency may upset the reproductive system. Take one pill daily.
Vitamin E - 400 IU daily may increase regulation of reproductive system.
Essential Fatty Acids - aid in reducing insulin. (Use according to package directions.) Also substitute vegetable cooking oil with canola and olive oil. Each has more EFA than other brands.
Herbal options:
Vitex - 1500 mg daily is ESSENTIAL to PCOS treatments.
Agnus Castus - This herb helps to balance a woman's hormonal system and rebalance the
endocrine system.
Alfalfa - Contains ingredients that react like natural estrogen. Alfalfa can increase fertility
and bring about a normal menses.
False Unicorn Root - Many claim this herb corrects female reproduction problems.
Lady's mantle - Strengthens the uterus
