After not having my period for nearly 4 months I decided to see my doctor. And I was given Provera to help start my period. I was suppose to take it for 10 days, but my period didn't come until the 13th day, and I understand things like that happen. I was given an ultra sound 2 days after that, and my doctor told me that I have PCOS. But she didn't seem too concerned about it, something about my age, and it not being very severe and whatnot. Well, because I was insulin resistent she put me on Metformin, which I have just started taking tonight (was sick with the flu and couldn't eat a thing, so I felt it'd be best that I waited). Well, since I started my period I haven't been able to stop and that was nearly 5 weeks ago. I'm very concerned about, and I plan on calling my doctor in the morning and discuss it with her, but in the mean time I was wonderind if anyone else has had this type of exceptionally long period go on. Thanks much!
HI and welcome to soul cysters. I have actually had the same thing happen to me. I had got about 5 months without a period. Saw the doc and he gave me the provera. Once my period started I had continued to bleed for almost 8 weeks total. After about 3 weeks I was concerned. So I saw the doctor about it. Keep in mind this was my family doctor I was seeing and not my specialist. He wanted me to double up on my birth control pills to stop the bleeding. The kicker was that the bleeding may or may not return when I stopped taking the double doses.
However, I never did take the birth control like that as my hormones were already out of wack and I didn't think that I or my husband could deal with me with all of those stra hormones. But the good thing is that since the time that I had this problem, I haven't had it again. Hope that helps and eases your nerves a little. But I would call the doctor and see what she has to say about it.
