I've had very irregular periods all my life, and today had a period a week after I'd just finished my period. This freaked me out as my periods have been 4-6 weeks between times so I thought that something was very wrong.
So after an ultrasound and exam and medical history my doctor diagnosed me with polycystic ovary syndrome.
He wants me to go on birth control pills to stop the "breakthrough bleeding", but didn't mention anything about any of the other treatments or symptoms. So I'm still pretty concerned.
I am hoping to find a more natural way to treat this, as birth control pills and I have always had bad encounters.
What steps do I take next? He didn't mention anything about the endocrine aspect of this syndrome--do I need to see another doctor? Has anyone used a naturopath to treat this?
I'm in Portland, Oregon and any referrals would be appreciated.
Don't be scared. You can't fixed something until you know what's broken.
I would recommend seeing a Reproductive Endocrinologist (commonly referred to as "RE" around these parts) because they deal with those hormones and things. (that sounded really technical didn't it? )

First of all i have some questions that i always like to ask. 1) Is your weight within "normal" range? 2) Do you have any other symptoms? (ie. acne, depression or anything else?) If your weight isn't "normal" try losing the weight. If you show any other symptoms treat them on a symptom to symptom basis...... about the naturopath, i have not I'm currently getting ready to take Yasmin. But there are other boards on here that will have more info. Welcome To SC
