Diagnosed, what else should I do? Hello. I have just recently found this website and have found it helpful. I am 25 years old and have been diagnosed with PCOS in October 2004. I have alot of the symptoms, irregular cycles, facial hair, some acne, hair loss (ALOT), mood swings anexiety or depression, I am not sure which, skin tags, dark areas of skin inside my thighs and under arms, and I am overweight. The only one that I don't have is infertility. I have five children the oldest is 8, then 5,3,2, and 8 months. The last two pregnancies I had alot of problems with my blood pressure and the last one it continued. It still goes up from time to time but I am off the meds for that. My dr did some lab work and my fasting insulin level was suppose to be between 6-8 and it was 13.5, also my lipids were off my total cholesterol was good but my good level was low. I have a family history of diabetes and heart disease and infertility. I have multiple cysts on my ovaries. I have been on the metaformin since October and now am taking 2 850mg pills daily. I think that my body has adjusted to the med, finally. I need to lose 60lbs in the next year. I was 195 in October and am 183 now, needing to be 135. I am 5'2". I am just wondering should I have more testing done, how long should it take for my cycles to be "normal" again. And what should I be eating, what ever I want or some kind of diet similar to a diabetic one.The only lab work that was done was a lipid panel, glucose and insulin, regular and fasting. I also wonder what the chances of my daughters getting this is and what should I look for early on? Thank you |
