I couldn't sleep so i've been catching up with my PCOS reading, and i've come across a few articles that basically say that not everyone that has been diagnosed with PCOS has it and that having a few of the symptoms is not really indicative of actually having PCOS. I know most of us struggle to get a diagnosis. But now I wonder, how many of you have ever thought that they were misdiagnosed? Since i have nothing else to do, i'm starting a poll

I voted yes, sometimes. I've never been tested for Cushing's, hypothyroid, etc. so sometimes I wonder if those could be the reasons for my problems, but I have way too many symptoms of PCOS to really think I don't have it.

When I was first diagnosed, I was the one who brought all the PCOS symptoms to my family dr and told him I thought I had it. He ran some blood work and agreed. I lost insurance after that and over the years I have wondered if some of the symptoms were due to other conditions that I might have. Finally, after having an ultrasound and blood work ran by my current gyno, I'm confident that I do have PCOS...even if I've gotten my hormone levels in control now.

I'm a lucky cyster who has fairly mild symptoms, other than horrible pain and irregular cycles. I would question the diagnosis, but I have had just about every test in the bood run. PCOS also explains a lot of things that, although not technical symptoms, seem to go along with PCOS.
I never really thought much about it, since I wasn't TTC and on BCP, so my cycles were clockwork. But after I gained 30 lbs when I stopped BCP, I went to a gyno and he doubted the original dx. He ran some tests (haven't had the follow up appt. yet), but in my ultrasound yesterday the tech showed me the cysts...so I guess it's for real.

I knew my doctor was right on the diagnosis because the first thing he did was run the blood test on me, I also had many simptons such as the irregular periods, the overweight and the insulin resistance.
I never doubted my Dx (granted, I was only officially diagnosed two days ago ...
Really I thought some of my symptoms were just body stress after an injury a year ago, but since it has taken so long to get back to normal I thought I'd have tests done. My dr referred me to gyno, gyno ran tests and referred me to endo -- endo says yup, PCOS.
I doubted the first doctor's diagnosis after learning more about it. But when we started TTC my dr did a blood test to look at the ratio of the hormones and she confirmed PCOS. I also had a sono done and the tech looked at my ovaries and said, "Oh, look at that - classic PCOS ovaries". So, I voted "NO" - my doctor was right on the money.

I'm thin, never been tested for IR
lab work comes back mostly normal
I have cysts in my ovaries (string fo pearls)
no excess hair and I don't think hair loss,
mild acne
irregular periods
trouble concieving
So... not exactly text book, but I believe it now.
