Default Diane-35 and Cataract!!!

Hi there,
My doc put me on Diane-35, I have been taking it on and off since I was diognised about five years back. I took a break for about a year or so and tried Homeopathy which didn't help me at all. I went back to Diane and have been taking it for the past 1 year and eight months.
Recently, I found out that I had Cataract in both my eyes CAUSED by the long-term usage of DIANE. I just had an operation done in my right eye and will do the left eye in jan. I have no idea what other damage Diane is causing. Please llok for alternatives any of you who are using DIANE. It is not a good long-term treatment.
I'm visiting my doc next week to ask for other options.
Take Care.

Thank you so much for sharing this! I'm on Diane 35 and have my endo appointment coming up, I'm hoping to switch off BCPs to something else. I hope your eye is better now and your other operation goes well!

You are most welcome. I wish there was more AWARENESS about PCOS and its treatment. Half the time we just take the doc word as gospel truth! The least we can do is help and support each other!
Hugs

Exclamation That's shocking!

OMG! That's so scary! I've been on diane on and off for the past year, and i've disliked being on it anyway (i feel that bcp isn't really for me). But getting cataracts?! And as you said, God only knows what else. That's not good.
But thank you very much for telling us - it's an added motivation to try met. Good luck with getting your cataracts removed.
love

Hi, i was wondering how did you know for sure that the cataracts are due to DIane 35? I also have cataracts and have used Diane 35 on and off during my 20's and 30's ( I am 42 now) I was diagnosed with one cataract three years ago and now they are on both my eyes and my sight has become very poor. I will be doing the cataract operations next month. I hope your operations went well!

I was 30 - with no diabetes or any other medical condition that caused the cataracts. My opthalmologist was very sure about the Diane35 hjaving caused the cataracts. I had it in both eyes. Both eyes have been operated. Its been 3 years now and my eyes are doing good. I've put in Acrylic Multi-Focus lenses.
All the very best for your operations.

I'm sure I read on the info sheet that came with Diane-35 (its called Estelle-35 here) that it could cause eye problems. Or it may have been another BCP. A quick google search indicates that it might be all BCPs that can cause eye sight problems.

I urge anyone who is worried about BCPs and their eyes to talk to your doctor about it and don't panic. There are hundreds and thousands, possibly even millions of women out there who are on BCP and never develop eye problems as a result.

To the OP, I'm sorry you suffered this, I hope your operations are a success.

I did read it on the Chlomid info sheet as a rare side effect (cataracts). But I never knew Diane 35 and other BCP had that possible side effect too. When I asked my opthalmologist if my cataracts could have been caused by the Chlomid he told me there is no way to prove a link...sometimes they happen on their own. Oh well, it was a risk I took. I just hope my eyes recover and the operation goes well :-)

Oh well, I have been taking Diane for 2 weeks but I'm going to stop now. One person being affected is too much. I wanted to research it properly but didnt, and just decided to be a guinea pig, but I would prefer to get as hairy as a gorilla than have other medical problems caused by trying to fix something else which is trivial. Theres always laser hair removal, and I started looking at a year or two ago but stopped when i found this website http://www.hairzapper.com, and decided I better research that before wasting money etc.

edit: I wish you all the best for your operation Tiya

diane has way too much of a high dosage!!! it makes sense why it would have so many side affects
