I've been looking around online and it seems that Diane 35 bcp are not available in the US. Does anyone know about this? I figured they were since there has been a lot of posts/threads about them in the past...
I'm not in the US, but I think they are called Diannette's or something like that there.

They're called Dianette in the UK. As far as I know, they are not available in the US because the FDA won't approve them.
Aaah. I see. Ooops. I wonder why?

Absolutely no idea. It's approved for use in the UK, rest of Europe, Australia and Canada, as far as I know.
In the UK, it's not actually licensed as a BCP, but rather as a treatment for acne and hirsutism, with the side effect of contraception. Having said that, it's very widely used. I think it's got a slightly higher risk of liver problems with it, but it's not huge and ok if monitored.

Same thing in Canada. My doctor said that she feels it has gotten bad press but it is very effective in the treatment of PCOS. It works for me.

When my doctor prescribed it for me, he called it a "hormone" not a BCP.

No, not available in the US but you can purchase them online from Canada...that's what I did and they were sent from the UK under the name Diannette-same thing.

Age: 24 Size:1 or 3 115 Lbs. Not Diagnosed My current approach-natural herbs & a healthy life style: *Black Cohosh *Saw Palmetto *Fenugreek *Drinking Spearmint Tea *Eating lots of Soy Products *Exercising
My Biggest Problem-Facial & Body Hair Used to have horrible back acne-but it's gone!
I've been taking Diane for years and love it! I have read that it should not be your only method of birth control. A dermatologist prescribed it to me for hair loss because it controls androgens and dhea.
It's also available in New Zealand but when a local pharmaceutical company started producing their own version the subsidy switched to that product, now we get a basically identical product just with a different name. Diane is still available it just costs way more!

Diane 35 is not availiable everywhere because of the current debate over higher cause of blood clots, stroke and heart attacks ... potentialy leading to death. Please see the following sites.

Reading those links we are talking birth control/acne not PCOS/birth control/acne. I add that it is still available here quite freely, I'm not sure about under the Diane name but defiantly under the name Estelle, which is an identical product.
Obviously there are safety problems - have been for quite a few years now but nowhere is it saying that it shouldn't be used as a treatment in PCOS, that is probably at the discretion of a doctor.
Upon reading how widespread withdrawal is I am really encouraged that my idea to ask for a referral back to a specialist is a good idea. I have been on Estelle 35 -ED which is Diane under a different name for probably 5 or more years.
One set of Doctors I have seen are really against me staying on it while my GP is completely OK with prescribing it. After the refusal to write a script (though I add on a misguided belief that I don't really have PCOS) I have come to really reconsider the position I'm in and it seems to me that much has changed since I started on the pills and I need someone who is knowledgeable in the area to make recommendations on what's best for me.

Is it an approved treatment for PCOS where you live?
Here in the states, there are no FDA-approved medications for the treatment of pcos.
(The FDA is our Federal Drug Administration - the agency responsible for appoving and regulating medications here in the states.)

isnt there anything absolutely safe for us women to take and yet take care of our problems. i am so frustrated with everything today.
should it be diane or yasmin, just cant decide anymore.
well anyway, diane is available in the middle east too, and doctors prescribe it as a treatment for pcos, more specifically excess facial hair and acne.
