Hi -
First I must say that I've been reading people's posts for about a year and it's been great to learn that I'm not alone in all my PCOS craziness...
I've was diagnosed with PCOS about 10 years ago and have pretty much been on Diane-35 ever since. I've been doing very well on Diane - regular periods, no more hair growth (and electrolysis took care of what was already there!). But I have recently moved from Canada to the US and just found out that Diane isn't available here!!! I went to the gynecologist today and she handed me a prescription for Yasmin instead - saying I shouldn't feel much different.
Because I've been on Diane for so long (with some success), I'm afraid to switch to Yasmin. Has anyone else made the switch? Are there any alternatives? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Wow! I did some research on this medication! I'm not sure that can be beaten! An anti-androgen and estrogen combined? In the states, your best bet might be Flutamide mixed with a BC pill like Yasmin. Because Flutmaide is an anti-androgen. However, Flutamide is experimental still in the US and is only FDA approved for testicular cancer. My endocrinologist prescribed it for me and I took it for a year with the Yasmin because I was in a study. I would go see an endocrinologist to see if they are willing to continue you on something similar. Tell them you had heard about the Flutamide study and tell them about Diane-35.
I hope this helps...that Diane-35 looks awesome! I hope they bring it to the states soon! I had good results with this kind of combination! My blood levels normalized after only one year!

Thanks for your response. After thinking about the whole switching medications thing more (I always need to process things for a bit and do research), I agree, Yasmin is definitely not "the same" as the Diane-35 that I'm on. I'm going to try to get an appointment with an endocrinologist and ask about the Flutamide. Thanks!! Here's to hoping I get a willing doctor!
I've been given Diane-35 by my gyn to use as anti pcos and birth control pill. It is mostly used in Europe and it is pretty new in North America. Lets see how it goes.
There are responses on the net about the lowered libido, raised appetite etc etc, but to me right now it works the opposite way, maybe because I need it. Less pain during intercourse and less severe mood swings for now. I hope it continues to be good. I heard that it is not a very good thing as a very long terms pill.
