Default Diane -> Yasmin

I've been on Diane for 3 months. However, my endo. wants me to make the switch to Yasmin in another 3 months since it's "better for the body". I asked him whether it was as effectful against acne/hair as Diane, and he said it was, but you normally start off PCOS-gals on Diane since it kicks in faster... hmm... I've been happy with Diane, no side effects, reg. bleeding, acne completely gone (but no news on the hair front), and I don't know if I am willing to make the switch. I do, however, want to take my endo.'s word for it, since he's proven to be very insightful and well-educated when it comes to PCOS. So, my Q is: How has the switch been for any of you cysters who's made it?

I've made the switch from Diane 35 to Yasmin and couldn't be happier! I like you was not having any side effects from the Diane 35, but nothing was happening for my facial hair situation either. I made the choice because my Dr. reccommended that there was no real reason to be on Diane 35 if it wasn't having any impact on my facial hair, and that Yasmin might be a better choice.

So far on Yasmin, my periods are shorter, my skin is just as clear as it was on Diane 35, and I've started to lose weight again! When I was switched to Diane35 I didn't gain weight, but I couldn't lose any either. I was stuck at a plateau. Yasmin overall hasn't helped with my facial hair issues. I've pretty much given up on bcp for facial hair though. I'm quite happy with the other benefits it is giving me.

hey

i swopped from Dianette (think that's the UK name for your Diane 35) to yasmin about 4/5 months ago and am sooooo much happier on Yasmin. My skin was very clear on Dianette but i had really bad pmt and depresive tendancies and also struggled to lose the extra few lbs i needed to. Also we get told not to be on it on a long term measure however i was on it for pretty much 6 years (with a couple of breaks in between to try others but always went back to dianette coz of it clearing up my skin)

On yasmin i am no where near as bloated as i was on dianette (water retention was a big issue for me) and my weight has gone down to 2lbs below my target weight and managed to remain within my target and a few lbs below, even over xmas! oh and my periods are 2 days shorter (down from 6 to 4 thank goodness!)

My skin isnt quite so good, but with a combination of yasmin and vaniqa my facial hair is deffo more under control. have just today bought some ketsugo which i read somewhere else on this site is good for skin so worth a go!

Perhaps follow your docs advice and give Yasmin a go, and then you can always go back to dianette if yasmin doesnt work for you?

good luck with it! xx

About the breast tenderness...My boobs hurt so badly for the first two packs of pills.

My third pack I didn't notice that my boobs didn't hurt until I got AF-when they were not sore at all!

I've been on Yasmin for six months and I LOVE IT!!!! I have never felt this good on birth control. I'm not as moody, my periods are a bit shorter, and I'm not loosing as much hair from my head! My hair growth on the other parts of my body has slown down greatly, and I'm LOSING WEIGHT! I'm down 35 pounds in the last six months. I haven't had any soreness of my boobs. I had some cramping the day I start my period, but it's a ton better then what I had on other BCP's.

If you are comfortable with your doctor and believe in him I would definatly give yasmin a try. Like Chatterbox says you can always switch back if it doesn't work for you.

Good Luck

Has anyone's doc reccommended a total withdrawel of pills due to 'increased risk of blood clots from third generation pills' (eg Diane or as we get in New Zealand, Estelle - a different brand but same pill) my usual just warns me about the risks every time and refills a prescription, I saw another doc at the same clinic this time and she went on about clots and how I shoud go without pills or at the very least decrease to a second generation pill
Anyone got suggestions or advice?

I think it is certainly worth trying Yasmin and seeing how it works for you.

I have been on Yasmin for 6 mths having changed from Dianette (after 4.5 yrs) because I wanted to lower the dosage I was taking. To be fair it was against my consultant's opinion but I was determined to decrease the level of toxins in my system. Anyway, at the end of this packet I'm going back to Dianette. Although no-one else would probably notice I strongly feel the weight has been harder to cope with and the hair growth has increased again. Plus my libido has disappeared - whilst mentally it's fully there my body is just closing down sexually which is a horrible feeling - & for my partner too. However, I think you need to go with your instincts and gut reactions as everyone reacts differently. It also is worth giving it a good few months to take effect before making a decision. Lots of luck to you!
