Default Diane35

Does anyone know if Diane35 helps with hair loss? I have a dr appointment today and was wondering if any ladies on here took it for that.

Hey, i had a sligt problem with hairloss before i went on dianette, but ive just come off it cos i suffered from svere depression while i was on it and now my hair is falling out worse than before - so be careful - but yes while i was on it hairloss and facial hair growth was greatly reduced.

Thank you Claire_emma1 for your reply. I had no idea that Diane35 could cause depression. My dr gave me a script for it today, and told me that it would be more beneficial to me than spiro. I hope I don't have any problems with it, my hairloss has been dramatic these last few months and if this doesn't work i'm really going to be depressed. I hope you are okay now, and hopefully your hairloss will stop. Take care..Sylvia

Hey sylvia, thats ok - i stopped the dianette in july and have nearly got over the depression now - will hopefully be coming off the antidepressants soon - yay! though my uni doc doesnt know wheteher i shud maybe stay on them?! am seeing my gyn tomo tho and am going to see what she says and maybe get referred to an endo.
i hope it works for u though it can cause depression, just be aware and i'm sure u'll be fine - i had no idea about the serious risk of depression before i went on it - but if u know that it can cause depression - then hopefully if it does affect u in that way u'll be able to stop it before it gets too severe cos u'll know to look out for it.
have u tried any herbal supplements? and often lots of intense exercise and strength training can help regulate hormone levels and therefore reduce hair loss - just a few ideas - cos when i came off the dianette my hair loss has got a lot worse and u generally only stay on dianette for 2yrs i think anyway good luck if u decide to use it and i hope it helps ur hair situ!

You are right about exercise playing a big role in dealing with pcos. I started working out january 05 5 days a week. Before that I would only get af about twice a year, now since february I have had one every month. Unfortunatley though I have seen little improvement with the amount of hairloss, or in my weight, I started at 176 now i'm at 166. My dr gave me metformin to help with my weight isues, hopefully that will help in that department. As for the hair loss, I'm still not sure if i'm going to take diane, I have read alot of scary posts on it. Anyway I have tried all kinds of herbal remedies, vitamins, creams, ect ect but nothing helped. I can deal with the weight, shave off the extra hair, cover my pimples, but it's hard to camoflauge the hairloss. Thanks for listening...sylvia

Hey sylvia, i saw my gyn yesterday and she has said to just keep up the exercise and healthy eating . she also said that the hair loss i'm experiencing may be down to stress, or major changes in hormones - but it could possibly be linked to my iron levls so i had a blood test to check my ferritin levels (i think that's the iron storage protein in ur body) it might be worth getting ur iron levels checked?! i'm going to take up yoga as well to try to help me to relax and destress - which if i dont have low iron levels that explain the hair loss, it might help. now ur on metformin - if u lose weight u might find that the hair loss decreases as ur hormone levls will hopefully even out more. also she said not to worry too much about taking supplements and that the most important things are exercise, strength training and healthy eating and finding other ways to be happy and relax. she has told me to stay on the prozac until the end of my final yr at uni - as altho i'm a lot better it will be stressful and she doesnt want to upset me by coming off it now - will be better to come off it over the summer after my finals. anyway i'll be thinking of u, good luck with whatever u decide to do

I was told the same things by my gyn a while back, but when I finally got to see an endo, he sent me for bloodwork and found my testosterone level to be 98. So that is definatley the cause of hairloss, which is why I was interested in Diabe35, spiro didn't help me in that department. Now that I think about it though, I bet stress is a huge trigger of PCOS. Although I have had PCOS forever I only started to have symptoms about 5 years ago when I lost my father, both grandmothers, aunt and, uncle all in the same year, and I was very close to all of them. It's funny I never really thought to link the two before. I still carry alot of sadness to this day, can't get over they are gone. Sorry just realized i'm going wayyyy off topic now. Anyway, if you have never had your free testoterone levels checked you should. That could also be the cause of your hairloss, and since as women we should only have small amounts of testosterone, it may be affecting your moods. I don't know for sure if can have an effect on mental health but it's worth looking into. Try not to stress too much about finals and exams, you sound like a big ol smarty to me keep in touch, e-mail me anytime.

hey thanks for the advice - i was told my testosterone levels were high when i first went on dianette last summer, havent had them checked recently - but yesterday the doc did a blood test - to check everything i think so will find out if i still have a high testosterone level soon. if i do i'm just going to keep up the exercise - cos i found that the less fatty tissue you have the less androgens there are in your body such as testosterone, because testosterone associates with/is generated by adipose(fatty tissue) this is the link (below) to a scientific paper (i found it using google) if ur interested - i understand the basics but not all of it - hehe! i think my depression was def linked to all my hormones going crazy - cos of the pill and evrything - exercise has helped so so much! sorry to hear u had such a hard year - but good on u for getting thru it and staying strong!

I was on diane 35 in 2003.. i decided to try it because my hair was falling out and whatnot. I lasted 2 weeks on it. I went from happy go lucky to not being able to get out of bed - complete depression. sleeping, crying, no energy whatsoever. It was the worst 2 weeks of my life to be honest. Once off of it, my hair started to badly fall out and because of that depression got worst.

As much of a bad experience it was for me, if you search the board, you'll see that many people have been successful w/ it. The decision is up to you!

Good luck!

Hi there,

I was on Diane-35 for several months - was supposed to help my hair loss - it didn't. I didn't get depressed or anything on it, but I did have bad periods - heavy, cramps, moodiness around that time of the month - not pleasant. So, I went off it and started taking Cyclen (same as Ortho-Cyclen in the States). So far, so good on the Cyclen. Periods have become a bit more manageable, however, I am still losing too much hair. I am also on Spiro (100mg/day), so hopefully that will kick in and start to stop the hair loss soon.

This whole hair loss thing is so maddening. It really seems like it's completely luck of the draw and that nothing really helps it. I'm obviously not a medical professional, but sheesh, you'd think that they'd be able to come up with something that actually worked.
