I was on Estelle-35 which I believe is the equivalent here in NZ. While I didn't notice any reduction, when I changed to another BCP I realised that it seemed to slow down hair growth and I am plucking more frequently now.

I've noticed a decrease in hair growth, although it took ages to see a difference. Possibly 4 or 5 months.

I had a fair amount of hair, and I think it took about 6 months to actually get to the stage where I wasn't growing any more (and what I had vanished)? Stick with it, your old hair follicles have to realize they are ladies not men!!

Default diane bcp

I have been taking diane bcp for a little over a week now and i find that i get so much fluid retention from this pill. I tried taking it once before and lasted two weeks becasue of the same problem.

Does anyone else get this? or does anybody know if the fluid retention settles?

I just piled on the weight with this pill, not by overeaiting though. Water retention plus every calorie seemed to stick like glue to my tummy and thighs!

Within 3 months it helped a bit with acne, but dried my skin up loads. Didn't notice a difference with hair, but I don't have that problem particularly.

However we are not meant to remain on Dianette for more than about 6-9 months due to DVT risk. There are other anti-androgenic bcps with less of a risk, such as Marvelon/Desogen, Yasmin etc.

I was on it for about 12 months, and then again a few years later for 18months. The doctor wasn't worried as long as my blood pressure was fine when I came in every 3 months for a new script.. Its the most risky, but I've never been told I should limit my time on it. Maybe because none of my immediate family have cardiovascular problems?

It was something I was told by a few doctors and my gynaecologist. They prefer to prescribe it for less time and not as a long-term bcp as they are not keen on the risks. But for a anti-androgen blast for a few months after being diagnosed, it can be great, if you don't suffer from the side effects! Think that's why Yasmin is prescribed instead now. Before it was always Dianette.

I think its different in every country. I was never told I could only be on this pill for a certian amount of time, but when I went to the UK they were aghast I had been on it for ten years!

That sounds about right...I have never had BP issues. I suppose it depends on the guidelines in each country/pressure from drug companies to prescribe their products.

I remember when i was on dianette, my ovaries were soooooooooo painful - felt like shards of glass sticking in them!! But luckily for some it is great.

xx
