Question Dianette/Yasmin

Hi,

Is anyone else on either of these pills and if so what have your experiences of them been?

Dianette has cleared my skin (yey) but i feel even more low than normal when im on it and have put a few more lbs on and get soooooo bloated with massive water retention around my period. have read a few things on the internet about Yasmin.... and just generally thought you girls should be my 1st port of call for info/experiences/advice!

Hi chatterbox,
i was diagnosed with pcos last summer at the age of 18, and my gynaecologist put me onto dianette. it coincided with the start of my second year at university so when i started having problems (even after the initial first few months) i put it down to the stress of my second year. i was an emotional wreck - always crying, not sleeping, i put on nearly a stone in weight etc etc, by May of this year i was a state - and i was finally diagnosed with severe/clinical depression by my university doctor who put it down to stress etc.
after 2months on prozac and not feeling much better i did sum more research and found there is a strong link between dianette and depression, so i immediately went back to my gynaecologist (back at home) who told me to stop the dianette as it was probably the cause of my depression - ive never had any problems with depression before even when i took roaccutane for my acne caused by the pcos and i was fine thru my a-levels etc - i'm usually such a bubbly person. altho the dianette did clear up my skin (after initially making it much worse it did clear up perfectly - tho it took over6months!) and it reduced the hair growth, for me i dont think it was worth it - i thought i was going crazy!! i'm not saying dont take the dianette, cos it may work well for u especially if u have major problems with hair growth etc and my gynaecologist said it does work well for lots of women, but please be very careful and watch for signs of depression cos it can make u depressed if ur body metabolises the pill in a certain way. how long have u been on it? it may be that ur just having problems to start off with and may settle nicely on to it?!
i'm currently on a break from the dianette - have only been off it for 12days but i'm already noticing some differences and starting to feel better tho i know ive still got a long way to go. and i'll be sitting my second year exams(finally) in august. then i'm goin back to see my gynaecologist in october to reassess the situation cos its most important that i beat this depression.
i havent tried yasmin but have heard some good and some bad reports on it - not sure if i'll go on to it cos it has also been linked with depression, i'm just going to wait and see what my doc says in october.
good luck with the dianette - i hope it works for u!
let me know how u get on
lots of luv
xxxxxxxxx

i've been on dianette for nearly 2 years. i had 6 months at the end of the first year when i got depressed when i split with my long term guy and the dianette magnified it. i was cutting myself and degrading myself. read my log on diarylandthis was when i was depressed, however i stuck with dianette and came through it. i madea friend who has supported me no end.

I was on Dianette for about 2/3yrs, and i was taken off them yesterday and given Yasmin, which i will be starting next week. Dianette didn't really help me alot, and there were times when i felt quite sad & low. So i'm hoping Yasmin will be better! Good luck.

When I was first diagnosed I was put on Dianette, and I hated it. the idea of it was to make my periods light and painless...it didnt do that, it just made me have them more often, just as bad as normal! I also suffer from severe clinical depression, and when I OD'd on painkillers, they decided that maybe Dianette wasnt quite suitable for me, so got put on Cilest...which incidentally I'm not on anymore, lol

I am a 31 year ole pro !!!

I have been on both Dianette and Yasmin and here are my experiences on it

Dianette whilst great for reducing the body hair made me gain weight, my boobs became two sizes bigger I was originally a B became a D they hurt like hell and I had to sleep in a bra for three weeks of the month because as soon as I took my bra off I would be in agony and as for someone touching them ... no way ! ..... I was also very depressed on it after two years I came off it because of high blood pressure.

I was then put on Yasmin

Yasmin I only managed two months on this pill .. I became an emotional wreck, considered suicide, screaming, crying, agressiveness and mood swings ... lets just say after that experience I will live with the hairloss and the excess hair because the pill is defo not for me ..........

If I was to go back onone It would be Dianette only because of the reduced hair on my body...

Good luck

G2 - I have my docs app next week which co-insides with me finishing this months pill packet for Dianette so maybe we can check in on each other from time to time coz i'll hopefully be on Yasmin by next week too.

Thanks so much to you all for your replies - isnt it confusing how we all react differently and have to try so many things to find whats right for us. i guess being different is what makes us special but sometimes i wish i didnt have to try one thing after another!

Claireemma - i also became depressed whilst at Uni and the docs put it down to exam pressure etc but now im convinced that it could have been something to do with my pill, which i had been off for a few months but went back on coz i thought it would 'balance' we in the run-up to my finals!! maybe i was wrong!Good Luck with your exams!

I'm on Dianette, and I must confess at first I didn't think I had any problems with it, but then ever so slowly I began to put on weight, I've spent 11 months now trying to lose as much as possible and managed to get 8 stone off, not I've put on a stone and yet I'm eating the same as before, possibly less but just cannot lose weight, it's so frustrating! The excess hair is better, I now wax once every 2-3 weeks on my face opposed to the 3-4 days I was doing, but I'm not sure the weight gain is owrth it.

Unfortunately the last time I went to my gynaecologist I got his houseofficer who told me he doesn't believe in PCOS and I should just turn my home into a gym to lose weight, plus facial hair is a sign of a mature woman in his village and then signed me off my consultants books... as a result I now have a 4 month wait to see my consultant.

Also just lately my hair has started falling out at a pretty rapid rate (on my head), more so than before and I'm feeling increasingly depressed each day!

hi,
i'm also on diannette, for 18 months now. My breasts went up a cup size and were sore for the first month or two. Apart from that I've been pleased with it. My periods are light and almost painless, my body hair has noticeably reduced and my weight is the same. I don't have depression problems but it is true that some people can be emotionally affected by the pill, you just to monitor it carefully if you're one of those people.

I was put on Dianette when i was 16 years old and it did not agree with me at all it gave me Migraines and also it piled my weight on , i took off it and put onto another called Marvelon It still put weight on me but i did not suffer from the bad heads as much on it.
I am not on the pill anymore though as i am TTC
