Thought this forum might like to read the tale of my first 6 Gentlelase laser treatments that has been ongoing on the metformin forum. I am almost finished the process and I'm so incredibly grateful to have had the chance to do this. Another regular 'nobimbo' has posted her updates as well here on her litesheer treatments. So for anyone considering this type of thing for facial hair, it's a great resource. Hope it helps.

Q for those who have done the laser thing: What do you do inbetween with the hair!?!?!
That's my biggest concern!
I get electrolysis done every week and its working very slowly, but I am gong for a laser consult tomorrow. They say it has to be 6 weeks since you tweezed or did electro (YiKeS!!). You shave it inbetween? (I have never shaved my face). How long does the hair have to be for the laser to work?
I guess I'll get all these questions answered tomorrow- but I know you girls won't sugar coat it for me.

Haven't done it YET but I am going to be within the next few months. Maybe longer than that. Right now I'm re-evaluating my derm after the things I have heard about her. (not good either).

Yes, shave. Probably 75% or more of the hairs are zapped and removed at your treatment, but what little is left you can shave until yur next treatment (You can't pluck or anything though, because you can't remove the follicle). It took several days to get a close shave after the first couple of treatments because of the courseness of my hair, but after that I could shave right after the treatment and everything looked good. My technician told me that a couple of days growth for me is the perfect zapping length, so when you go in, they will be able to tell you how long yours needs to be.

Plus I am a bit scared. Does it hurt??
The first treatment did hurt, but my technician lowered the laser setting the next time and it was way better. There are also a couple of options for dealing with that...there are gel and spray on things that you can try at the office and decide which one helps you the most. After my first treatment, I tried the gel, and while it muted the "zap" noise, the setting being lowered helped a lot and it didn't make a big difference. After that I stayed with the spray on and it has been easier and easier every time, even now that the setting is up to 25. The finer the hair, the simpler it is.
Let me say that what little discomfort there is, is SO worth it. Every time I finish a treatment, I could just skip out of the office. It's the most empowering and amazing thing to have done.

I guess it depends on what kind of laser is used. With the Lighsheer, you are encouraged to shave just before the treatment since it works best when there is no hair on the surface. That was a real positive for me, since with electrolysis you have to grow the hair out before treatment.
Great idea to post this here, Christy!

Wow! I'm really getting stoked. I'm going to be meeting with a new derm next week for possible switchover. My current derm has some badddd reviews from friends I know here locally, so I am going to be trying someone else who is highly recommended. I'll keep you posted.
