My TSH level came back elevated (not sure what the level was) and I had further testing done that I will not get back until next week. I'm wondering if I have hypothyroidism, should we treat that then continue with the IVF or give us a chance to get PG on our own? Is there anyone who got PG with just the thyroid medicine? If there's a good chance that we could get PG on our own, I would like to try!

It took me from 1999 to 2001 to get my thyroid regulated. it will take about 6-8 weeks if they put you on meds for them to recheck it and if it's off then they will raise your meds then in another 6-8 weeks, check you again. If you have time to wait and see you should, if you don't then I would visit with my Dr or Dr's and see what they recommend. Good Luck to you however you go!!!

My RE wants my levels at a 2. My PCP was okay with it being a 3.1. It is also something that they will need to monitor throughout the pregnancy. I have just started met and have been on thyroid meds since Nov 05. I know that my husband and I decided to wait and make sure the tyroid is fixed before we ttc.
Good Luck - |

Good Luck - | I spoke with my Reproductive Endo about my TSH levels and he told me that no matter what My body would make sure the baby was taken care of 1st before you would get the hormones you needed. I agree that your child IF he/she was/is dignosed with Hypothyroidism themselves then you would have to worry about learning diffculties, IF it isn't treated. I also know it is very hard to fall pregnant when your thyroid levels are off because you most certainly are not ovulating if your Thyroid levels are way off. I think it is a good idea to wait to make sure everything is working properly. I was Dignosed with Hypothyroidism in 1999 and My 4yr old DD has it as well, However I am on Armour and Levoxyl and doing 110% better than I ever was on Levoxyl only. Good Luck to you TTC.

There are bigger repercussions here than just delivering thyroid to the baby.... a mom who is hypothyroid will have problems in her body that can cause all sorts of pregnancy complications.
That being said, do not continue IVF until you have your thyroid problems sorted out. First of all you will waste your money/chances because being hypothyroid can cause a lot of miscarriages. Secondly if you do get PG you will risk the health/development of your fetus if you are untreated.
Remember that TSH alone is not a good indication of thyroid status in mild hypothyroidism and it is practically meaningless during pregnancy. It is your Free T3 and Free T4 levels that matter.
My first pregnany my levels were steady the whole time I was pregnant. I did not need to increase my meds. My 2nd pregnancy I had to triple the dose of medication I was on.

We planned to start earlier last year, but my levels were off and my endo wanted to make sure they were set before conceiving. As shena mentioned it can cause problems with the pregnancy as well as with the child, including a low IQ. And it's always a good idea to have have one or less medical concern on your plate at a time if you can help it ;-) I know it is hard to wait even another day, but another 6 weeks to get your thyroid straight will be better for you body and in turn your child.
