Hi, not sure I want to ask this question as it seems that the average dose for weight loss on this is at least 1500. My endo started me on 1000, I have been going to Curves to no avail, went to WW, but think that the IR diet seems best suited to me, although I will be using some of the WW recipes I got. At any rate, I am hopeful that there is someone out there who has lost weight on 1000 mg MET ER, and if not, then how long before I contact the endo to ask for an increase, it has only been 5 days, and I have had a nasty cold, can't wait to get back to Curves tomorrow now that I am finally feeling better. ~hopeful holly
I lost 6 pounds on 1000mg of regular met in the 1st month. After that, the weight-loss stopped. It took another 6mths & a new Dr to get my doseage increased to 1500mg (I'm on XR now, too, but I don't think that matters WRT weightloss.) I have lost another 14 pounds w/o much change in eating habits. I average about 1-2 pounds off per month. Slow, but steady. My BMI is now in a healthy range, so I'm happy, but I'd like to see another 10 pounds or so gone. GL to you!!!

Hi Momo3, thanks for your response!! I just want alittle glimer of hope from someone who has lost weight on this dosage, and I really appreciate it! I am actually going to buy a new scale today, I don't think our old one is accurate, last night I thought I had lost 6lbs in 7 days, only to get on the scale again and see that I am still at my starting weight?? Then my husband got on it twice, the first time he was 181, and the second time 188?? I just feel like I need some reassurance after letting my hopes get up and then, get confused?? Anyway, I am hoping that the combination of all 3 approaches will help, more than just Curves and trying to 'watch' what I eat. I am now trying to educate myself on all of this. One thing I don't understand is why Met works for some and not others? I keep seeing posts by this one person who says that Met didn't help much until diet and excercise were incorporated, anywho, thanks, and continued good luck to you. ~Holly
Holly I have been on and off Met for almost 2 years. My original Dr wanted me up to 2500mg and then moved and had an awful Dr who wouldnt move me up past 1000 so I took 1500 myself (If I was with my old Dr I would be on 500 for a week, 1000 for a week, 1500 the next week all the way up to 2500 as long as my labs were ok. Lost almost nothing on 1000mg but did start losing more on 1500mg and even more on 2000mg

hi, i'm new here. my name's jillian, i'm 24 (well, tuesday i will be) and i was diagnosed with pcos when i was 16. anyways, i just wanted to say that i've been on met. for on and off for about 4 years, and when i went back on it the last time (about 2 years ago) i started at 500, and now i'm up to 2000 a day, and i never lose weight. in fact, i've been gaining, even with diet and exercise. has this happened to anyone else?
Hello all I have been on regular met since April of last year and I lost 40 pounds with diet and the met...I am only 20 lbs away from where I would like to be. I have never been this skinny since I was in high school and I was on the regular met at 1000 mgs a day.
Hi, thanks for responding, I bought the new scale and I did in fact lose about 5 1/2 lbs last week!!! and I only went to Curves once (b/c of the bad cold I had). I did, however start changing my diet(for the whole family, too) I am about 1/3 of the way through the IR Diet book and implementing many ideas from there. I am just so grateful to be losing weight, that is such a strange concept to me!! Words cannot describe what it feels like after all these years(35 years old) how, finally my new endo Dr listened to me. I went to 2 other men Endo's and they were mean and told me that I was fat becasue I ate too much! My friend has been telling me for years, that she thinks I have a problem with my thyroid. I have gradually gained weight (lot) since highschool, and I do have an enlarged thyroid, but for all the years of having a thyroid panel run, throughout 3 m/c's and 2 full term pregnancies, my TSH has never been more than 2.5, right now it is at 1.9. Yet, I have had 2 ultrasound ordered by my ENT dr and shows that it is enlarged but that is all, apparently for no reason!? Ok, I just am still trying to pull all my 'medical issues' together and understand this, and it is finally making sense. Oh, and last year, I had a physical and my Primary Care Doctor told me he believed I have PCOS and wanted me to approach it with diet and excercise alone, and he might consider Met in the future, but that he recomended to eat like a diabetic and excercise. Then, he told me that he only knew of 1 patient who was sucessful at this, and now with a new Dr, my endo, she was so thorough and sensitive, I even showed her a picture of me in college about 65 lbs ago, and she said, wow something is going on here! (I kinda feel that female doctors, not all that I have met though, alot of them seem to be more compassionate then men, but I have met a few women in the medical field who were worse than some of the men!!) So she ran bloodwork that no one ever has and revealed that my insulin is elevated and so is my glucose, while in 'normal range' still towards the top for both! I am rambling now trying to put into words, how I feel after all these years and various hormonal issues, 3 m/c's, always low progesterone(needed progesterone supplementation for the pregnancies) I just feel so grateful to God and my new Dr, and I can't wait to get back to Curves this week and watch excercise help me lose weight, (hopefully), and this is just all new to me, the mere thought that I can change/have some control over my weight through diet, excercise, Met, and God and support from friends, I just never imagined this in a million years!!!!!!Sorry for such a long post, I am just in awe of what is happening to me and feeling like I finally understand, and understand how to handle it, wow, anyway, thanks for reading such a long post, I really appreciate it!!

Hi Holly....
I am on 1000 mg's and I have lost 66 pounds. It's taken about a year. I have been stuck at this weight though for quite awhile so I am going to up it to 1500 to hopefully lose the other 60 I need to lose. But 1000 did good for me. I think each of us is different and from reading the prior responses it seems I am the exception to the rule....most women say it takes 1500+ to lose substantial amounts of weight. I am joining Curves next week too....good luck to you and if you have any more questions, feel free to ask me.

jenpalmer71~ Hey, thanks so much for your response, can I ask you if you have been on any certain 'diet' like the IR diet? In combination with the Met? I am hopeful that the combination will work well for me. I think you will like Curves, it feels a bit tough at first, but then it makes you feel so much better to excercise!! Can I send you an email if I have any other questions? Thanks so much~Holly

Hi ladies, I'm really new to this and I have a question. My Re put me on Met yesterday and he wants me to take two pills a day 750mg each. So does this mean I am on 1500mg? Or are you guys on 2 1500mg pills per day? Sorry if its a stupid question, all this talk about dosage has me kinda wondering where I fall. Thanks so much
Lorisha, from what you said you are taking 1500 mgs. You might want to ask if you can start with a lower dosage for maybe a week or so so your stomach can adjust to the met. In my opinion (and everyone is different!!) if you start lower and work your way up from 500 to 1000 to 1500, you are less likely to get the stomach upset. Just a suggestion!!
Holly.....
honey you can email me with any questions you have!! my personal email addy is the same as my name on here @yahoo.com. As for any particular diet...no, I didn't follow one too strictly. I did cut out lots of saturated fat and cholesterol and cut way back on carbs but I didn't limit myself too much. Once I started the met, I think it did most of the work for me. I do eat alot better than I used to but I don't completely cut things out of my diet cuz I know if I do that, I'm just gonna fail and drive myself crazy. I have been at a acomplete standstill with the weight loss for awhile now so I think it's time to get my butt movin!!! Glad you like curves and I think I will too. Email me if you wanna, we can even chat sometime if you'd like.
