Hi everyone,
I am going to an ob/gyn in 2 weeks and I'm sure I will be starting clomid first. I am a thin cyster - 5'2" and 115 lbs. My worry is that because I'm thinner, clomid won't work. What kind of experience have some of you had with clomid? Has anyone who is thin ovulate on it/get pregnant?I don't have a ton of coverage for fertility stuff and I'm nervous the simplest and cheaptest treatment (clomid) won't work :S. Anyone know of what factors affect whether or not clomid will help you ovulate?
Thanks!
I've always heard Clomid works better on thinner women, as most medications work better on thinner people. It didn't work for me and I'm a plus sized girl.

I'm not sure why you'd have less of a chance of ovulating on Clomid just because you're thin. I would think that would HELP!
By the way, Clomid gives you a 70-90% chance of ovulation. It's honestly a miracle drug!
I didn't think clomid was for bigger women. I have a friend who is thin and was on it and had a baby.
I also have another friend who is overweight adn it didn't work on her. In fact the dr advised her to lose about 40 pounds then try it again to see if that helps.
I think being thin works to your advantage while on clomid.

3 rounds didn't work for me (and i'm on the short and stout side of things) so I'm moving to injectables.
best of luck!

I am a "thin" cyster as well (well more of average weight I guess but not overweight) and Clomid 50mg worked for me every cycle - I ovulated nicely and got pregnant on my third round.
Good luck!!

I was thin up until my DD was born. When I conceived my DD, my BMI was probably around 22. And I got pg on the first try with clomid, 50 mg. It was awesome To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

I feel the same as you, afraid that because it works for so many that it won't work for me...
I am almost trying NOT to hope, after years of ttc hope has become painful for me...

I am thin (BMI = 20) and have ovulated every time I've taken clomid, with one temporary BFP. There isn't a lot of data on nonobese PCOS, but one study suggests that thin women respond better to metformin that the obese, and another suggests that metformin is better than clomid in thin women - both help ovulation, but metformin helps you get pregnant and stay pregnant.
We've been discussing that article over on the thin cysters board: To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
I'm trying to convince my OB/GYN to put me on metformin, because I respond better to clomid when I adhere very strongly to a very low glycemic index diet. I'm going in Tuesday, research articles in hand. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
As for predictors with Clomid, there's a study on the predictors of clomid efficacy with PCOS:

From their discussion:
In our study, PCOS patients who ovulated under CC [clomiphene citrate: Clomid] had a BMI statistically significantly lower at baseline than those who did not ovulate. Responders also showed a significantly lower baseline Ferriman-Gallwey score [a measure of hirsutism, or male-pattern hair growth on your face and body], serum T [testosterone] and A [androgen] levels, and FAI [free androgen index] in comparison with patients who remained anovulatory under CC treatment.
So being thin is good. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. Hope this helps!
I took Clomid (50mg) and it worked to make me ovulate every time and I'm not thin. I have a bmi that hovers around 30/32. I never got pregnant but it made me ovulate. You'll never know unless you try! All the best!
