hiya Narcissa, i think the saw palmetto will lower you androgen levels, make ovulation natural.. but i dont know about the nettle stuff. i take inositol with my saw palmetto, and i ovulate with this..but its time to ttc.. now..

hope this helps

Hi Narcissa

I've been taking Saw Palmetto for, geeze, about eight months or so now. I've always had sky-high testosterone levels and I could both see and even feel a difference after being on Saw Palmetto a couple months. I wasn't as oily skinned, my bald spots soon sprouted hair, my acne lessened, and I didn't feel as aggressive.

But I didn't ovulate until I added the NAC. Then I ovulated in a couple of weeks! NAC was a true miracle for straightening out my cycles and I've ovulated FOUR times in a row, TWO of those being off of BCPs (I've only ovulated one other time off of BCPs!). I've never ovulated that many months in a row in my entire post-pubescent life! I truly cannot explain what a miracle this stuff proved to be for me... and I just bought it to deal with IR

I hope you have as much luck as I have!
Dana

OMG! im so glad i got some replies! lol. i havent checked this site in a few days because i was so sure nobody had any answers yea!
Mizztee: I decided to take the nettle with the saw palmetto because i read that the nettle helps the saw palmetto do its job... Im taking 15 drops each/3xs a day to start out... hopefully this helps regulate my cycles... I normally have 3+ months with no AF... yeesh!
ABumbyGal: Im so glad you mentioned that the NAC helped you! i read so many good things about it on this board, that i did some research and have decided to add it to my "regimen". I hope it proves to be a miracle for me as well. My testosterone level was 88 (not sure if this is my free or my regular testosterone!) and my DHEAS was also slightly elevated... along with elevated prolactin, which is great... (boooo!) My insulin levels were never checked, because i am a slim cyster.. they figured that my levels would be "normal". But my instinct tells me this is not the case because i have severe sugar and carb cravings AND i gain weight extremly fast when i dont watch my carbs and sweets... Ive put on 20 pounds in the past 3 months!!!!
Im hoping the NAC will help with all of this. Did it make you tired when you first started taking it? Today is CD 1, so i started my new "regimen" I fell asleep from 11am until 8pm... which never happens to me! And this is after 9 hours of having a great nights sleep...
OKay, sorry for the novel. I get easily carried away. Im so excited y'all responded though!

Goodness Narcissa! We could have been twins when I was younger! I seem to remember one of my testosterones always coming out in the 80s somewhere and my GYNs would freak I distinctly remember the time it came back high for a man! Only my equally sky-high levels of estrogen balanced things out so that I only had an aggressive attitude and a hair here or there. Oh, and no periods without BCP, of course

Oh that makes me so angry that they didn't test you for IR just because you're thin! My mother had to demand that they test me, as it wasn't connected to PCOS at the time and I was 20lbs "overweight" by the chart, but the physician could see that it was all muscle. I had almost no fat on my body at that time, but like you said, I had to FIGHT to keep a normal weight. Even at 19! I had horrible hypoglycemic episodes though, so they ran the glucose tolerance test and guess what? "Borderline Diabetic" is what they called it then. Now it's known more clearly as Insulin Resistance. Fight to be tested if you can!! In the meantime, eating as if you are is a good way to eat for everyone, from what I've heard.

I wish you luck on your supplements! It's so exciting when your body finally starts working! I've been a member here for a while and have read here for even longer and I still haven't gotten over the difference working with my body instead of against it has made in my life

I just got some saw palmetto yesterday! For those of you that take it, how much do you take?

Dana you said the following:

"But I didn't ovulate until I added the NAC. Then I ovulated in a couple of weeks! NAC was a true miracle for straightening out my cycles and I've ovulated FOUR times in a row",

Maybe it's just me but can I ask what NAC is please. I have looked in the abbr. but can't see it.
Blessings

So what does the NAC do?? I don't have any of my #'s (I never asked and my RE said they were all fine/normal except my cholesterol - 225), so I don't know what my testosterone level is, but I do know that when I was tested, I wasn't IR. I was looking around on-line and saw that it helps with IR for PCOS, but wasn't sure what else it helped with.
