Did some Avandia research online and I'm freakin' out!
My RE prescribed Avandia to use in conjuction with Glucophage XR. I started it last night and have had some GI side effects so I was looking up side effects with Avandia online and found all these links to heart failure as a side effect and all these links for legal representation for those experience serious side effects on Avandia. Why would my doctor prescribe this if it is dangerous? Is anyone taking Avandia and doing fine on it. Any info about successes or failures on Avandia will help me. Thanks!

Hey Danielle,
I've been taking Avandia for over a year now and I haven't had any trouble with it. In fact it's agrees with me better than the met. Sometimes I have a little stomach trouble, but I don't know if that's what it's from or not. And it's brought my insulin levels down! And met. doubled my insulin level. HTH

I just started taking avandia yesterday because met gives me really bad diarrhea and nasuea. I did ask my doctor lots of questions about avandia. I would not be worried. Avanadia works better for some of us. I was told that it does not cause any GI side effects at all unlike met. I haven't read anything about the heart failure, but I did read some things on live enzymes being high when taking avandia in some patients. You are suppose to get blood work done every couple of months on avandia to check that. Anyways, good luck with it. I wouldn't be too worried.

Before having my baby, I was on Avandia for 8 months. I had no problems at all. In fact, it really helped me lose weight! 45 lbs to be exact!
Now that DS has been born, I have been put back on Avandia by my doctor at my request. I have been on it for a little over a month now and I am feeling better than ever! (Other than the lack of sleep from night feedings...)

Thank you all so much for your replies. I feel better now. I started Avandia the night before last and have felt a little tired but I'm hoping it is temporary. I'm really hopeful that it will be the boost that I need to conceive.

Jcbelle-
Did you take Avandia before you got pregnant or while you were pregnant? Your son is adorable by the way! If you don't mind me asking, did you first try glucophage or metformin and then moved on to Avandia or did you just start out with Avandia. Also, how did you lose the 45 pounds? I have lost 30 but am stuck and need to lose a lot more.
Amber-
I'm so glad Avandia worked for you. I can't believe your insulin doubled on Metformin. That's kinda scary!
Angmboehm-
Good luck with your Avandia too! I hope that it works much better than the Metformin did for you! I had the same problems with Met and then I took the Glucophage XR and it is sooooo much better.
Sincerely,
Danielle

Danielle~My family doctor put me on Avandia to start out with and I was on BCP's at the time because of possible birth defect risks. While on Avandia, I followed the weight watchers points plan, walked a lot and did kickboxing a few days per week (with a video). Eight months later, I was able to get an appointment with an RE who switched me off of Avandia and on to Glucophage XR, which was HELL. The side effects about killed me and I stopped taking BCP's then got pregnant 3 months later. I took the Glucophage XR up through my first month of pregnancy and then was taken off of it, though I have noticed that a lot of pregnant PCOS'ers stay on met/gluc throughout their pregnancies.
Congrats on the weight loss! That is great! If only I could get back into the swing of things and get my weight loss ball rolling again...
Thanks for the compliement on my little guy!
