I work so hard to stay shaved and waxed and pimple free (which never totally works out heh) and people finding out that I have PCOS would kind of defeat the purpose...
But at the same time I tell myself "anyone who matters doesn't care, and anyone who cares doesn't matter." but it always kinda stings a little.

My Mood: Points: 17,588.88 Bank: 29,059.02 Total Points: 46,647.90 | I know.. I have days where I feel so good about myself, but then there are mornings like today. I was looking at myself in my pajamas, and since I didn't sleep in my bra, I could see the distinct shape of my boobs. Boobs are supposed to look like this ( . Y . ) and mine look like this V V. They're spread so far apart and they're pointy and saggy.. So I was already feeling bad about myself, but then I couldn't find a shirt to hide the HS sores on my underarms and boobs that would ALSO conceal my stomach, so I ended up wearing what looks like a burlap sack, but it has kind of a dip in the back, and we were at the first grade awards assembly and she goes "You need to sit up straight, you're getting a hump". I tried to tell her that the hump isn't from slouching and that I AM sitting up straight, it just doesn't look like it.... It just made me feel bad. And then on top of all of that, we were watching TV and a mouthwash commercial came on and she goes "do your gums still bleed a lot? You know, they say gum disease can lead to heart disease blah blah blah" and I TRIED to tell her that my bleeding gums were due to having genetically bad teeth ON TOP OF my IR (which the dentist AND endo said would cause bleeding gums) but I feel like she thinks I'm just making excuses. I just plain feel gross today. I'm a deformed manwoman. (

Hey don't feel bad my boobs seem saggy and they have strech marks cuz of the stupid weight I put on. I have been buying Victora secert full coverage bra that also gives you a little push.
And was this a teacher or co worker who said this to you? It's none of their damn bussiness and they have no right to talk to you that way. If they choose not to believe you then that's their problem. I am sure your a very pretty women. So don't worry or listen to what people say or think. |

Points: 1,343.42 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,343.42 | So far, only a few people know about my PCOS and it's mostly on a need-to-know basis. I don't really think I need to tell people unless it specifically relates to a conversation I'm already having. That said, I'm not shy about it and I'm happy to explain. A couple of people have commented that I look like I'm losing weight and they ask what I'm doing. That usually leads to me telling them what's up since they question the low-carb diet thing ("why did you choose to do that?" etc).
When we begin TTC in a couple of months, if things aren't going well, I'm guessing we might have to say something to DH's family eventually (so far family-wise, only my mom knows). Also, we'll be going to visit Father-IL in Florida in a couple weeks for a week. I have feeling I'll have to tell them what's going on because I'll need to stick with my diet. They were both in the medical field though before they retired (Father-IL is a cardiologist and Step Mother-IL is a nurse), so they should have some basic understanding when I tell them what's going on. |

I look at it this way, I know a few people who share many of the same symptoms that we all do, and are afraid to go to the Dr. The more I can ease someone else, the better I feel |

tukeetukee--I know exactly how you feel! Sometimes I look in the mirror and just think, "Yuck". I feel less like a woman and more like a man most days! lol
Luckily my DH is great about making me feel better on my ugly days. |

I wasn't mad at her.. I would SO rather HER say things of that nature than anyone else. SHe's trying to help, she really is. And usually I don't mind her saying stuff like this, but I was already feeling particularly self conscious that day, and I DIDN'T need to hear that!!! But I mean.. I never came out and said "mom I'm having a really self conscious day, would you mind holding back ANY comments you might have that would otherwise help me out?" so I don't blame her.. I just felt bad anyway, and the comments made me feel a little MORE like Quasi Modo.

I c..I mean yea she is trying to help, but sometimes the truth hurts. My mom always told me I need to lose weight and blah, blah. I don't pay attention..I know she is trying to help, but I know what I need to do. She doesn't need to tell me. Anyways maybe if you are feeling self conscious you should say that to your mom. |

I've explained PCOS to her (and that she probably has it too), but to no avail. I did tell her to quit 'helping' at one point, but then she just got mad at me. So I was chubby and a horrible daughter.

When I was DX, my original plan to see my Dr was for a regular, I have flu symptoms, visit. Well, they took some blood, scheduled me an Ultrasound and I came back a week later for my results. That's when I found out I had PCOS.
At that time my boyfriend and I were living together and he asked me how everything went. I was like, "I have PCOS. It's Polycystic Ovarian Syndrom, nothing you can catch." He looked a me crazy and was like "Soooo? What exactly does that mean?" I was like "I have cysts on my ovaries which can make it hard for me to TTC and I have high levels of testosterone, which is the reason for the chin hair, and absence of periods. I think that's what my doctor was saying."
Then I called my mom and informed her which I found out 2 weeks ago she doesn't remember me telling her. I guess I was the only upfront one! LOL!
