I've been trying to research the cause of PCOS ever since I was diagnosed several years ago. I want to take a poll to see how many of our PCOS victims' mothers smoked during pregnancy and how often. (I FINALLY got my mother to admit that she did in fact smoke regularly)
So please, let me know if your mother smoked during her pregnancy and how often.
Also, I would be interested in hearing whether moms were heavy drinkers (not necessarily during pregnancy) or if your mom also has PCOS.

My mom smoked for my 1st trimester. She thought she was going through menopause because she was 39 conceived me. Went to her doctor to see if she was pre-menopause and she was pg.

My mom is a non-smoker, non-drinker. I am positive she didn't do either during pregnancy, but I am also the only immediate female member in my family with pocs and infertility problems.
My mother-in-law smoked with all three of her pregnancies, and her only daughter had no problems getting pregnant, though she does have endo. really bad. All the women in that family have had hysterectomies.
In addition, my mom never drank. She was never diagnosed with PCOS, but I wouldn't be surprised if she did have it. She carried all her weight in her stomach, had severe thinning of hair.

My mom smoked probably close to a pack a day while pregnant with me and my sister. My sister has no infertility problems, and neither does anyone else in my family. I was dx at age 22. Hope this helps.
Interesting poll questions. For me my mom has never smoked or drank. She also does not have PCOS nor do any of the other females in my immediate or extended family. Also from what I have been told you get the PCOS gene from your father.
My Mum did smoke during her pregnancy with me, and as far as I know she doesn't have PCOS. Her mother however, I believe from everything I know about her that she did have PCOS (not ever diagnosed, but so so many symptoms).
My mother never smoked nor drank with pregnancy or otherwise. She has never been disgnosed with PCOS but has many symptoms. My half sisters on both my mother's and father's side have PCOS symptoms also. Neither have been diagnosed. My grandmother also had some of the symptoms.
My sister did not smoke when PG with her DD who has PCOS. My cousin did not smoke during pregnancy and all three of her DDs have PCOS. I doubt my Granny's mother smoked during pregnancy, but all of Granny's sisters had symptoms of PCOS from middle weight gain to IR or diabetes or border line IR/diabetes problems. From what I understand PCOS has run in our family for many generations.
My mum smoked, think about 10 a day. She wasnt a drinking, but all my grandparents had diabetes, and both grandparents on my fathers side have thyroid funtion problems. (outlook wasnt really good for me)
There are no other records of PCOS in my family apart from me.

Yup, she smoked quite a bit of ciggs and dope.
