I plan on going to my OB/GYN tomorrow to ask him about AF. I'm on CD 44 which is not normal. Especially since i'm used to being on regular 28 day cycles.
I also plan on speaking with him about doing some IR bloodwork and putting me on Metformin. This is the thing ...
For some odd reason , I shrink up when I get around my doctor! I sometimes feel nervous to ask him things because I don't know what he might say. LOL. He's real particular about prescribing certain medications. Don't get me wrong. My doctor is the best. He may consider Metformin something that i'll have to go to my regular doctor for. I called his office one time and spoke with one of the triage nurses about getting some bloodwork done for IR. She sorta blew me off (which was very unusual considering she's extremely nice) and told me I need to go to my regular doctor. Now that I actually have a reason to go back to his office for my AF missing in action , i'm going to take the opportunity to speak with him about IR and Metformin. Hopefully he'll order the bloodwork and get me started on Met.
Did your OB/GYN do your BW and prescribe your Met or did you have to go to your regular doctor?
My OB/Gyn does all of my BW and meds. I'm really glad to. I feel like she understands PCOS so much better than general practicioners do. I would be brave and talk to your GYN about this. If he doesn't like it, maybe look at switching doctors.
I'd say, write down whatever you want to ask your doctor and bring it with you. That way, you have all your thoughts collected in one place so you won't get sidetracked by anything and will be able to just go on down the list and ask away. It might also help you because with it written down, it's less emotional because you are thinking of it in the same way as you would if you were just trying to come up with questions on the spot.
I just called over there to make an appointment and I got the infamous question "What do you need to be seen for?". Then she told me she'll have a triage nurse call me back. Ugh , just make me an appointment!
I've actually printed out a couple of things from this site that i'm going to present to him. We'll see what happens!
My ob/gyn prescribed my met. She seemed to know the protocol, but not much at all about the medication itself, and she did not test me for IR before prescribing. The irregular periods, cysts, and high androgens were enough for a diagnosis.
I'm sure I don't have to remind you, but make sure you do an HPT before going into the office!

I'm so nervous to take another HPT. I just got a BFN on July 5th. I'm now on CD 45 which is NOT normal for me. Ahhhhhhhhh! I feel like screaming. I may take another one Saturday. I'm kinda over the fact that I got a BFN so I think I can handle another one if that's the case. Hehe , thanks!
On one of the first visits to my OB (he dx me as having PCOS) he asked me how soon I wanted to become pregnant. I told him within a year, so he put me on Met right then and there.
Hi sweetie!!! Ok, my regular doctor suspected PCOS, so she referred me to my OB/GYN. My ob was the one who ordered all the b/w, the u/s, and dx'd me with it. She's also the one who put me on the bcp's for three months to absorb all my cysts and regulate my hormone levels. Then she prescribed me the Met. She started me off at 1000mg for 1 week then upped it to 1500mg and within 2 weeks....POOF!!!! I was pg with dd!!! I'm also IR, so I needed the Met anyway. Diabetes runs in my family. But she told me before we knew that I was IR that if I was dx with PCOS she would put me on Met anyway. So DEFINETELY push for it. Its your body, so fight for it!!! Print out the stuff on Met that I posted in the other forum. Take it to him. Write out everything you want to say to him. Google Metformin and PCOS and print out what you get. Go in there informed and armed for battle. Some doctors are more willing to do what you want when they see you know what you're talking about. GL!!!!

My previous OB prescribed it. Then I went to an RE and he wanted me on it. Already on it. Then went to a new OB and he wanted me on it. Already on it. So all three of the drs I have seen agree in that area at least.
MY OB/GYN prescribed my met. and does all my BW. I havent been to my regular dr. in a long time and my GYN wants all the results given directly to him. Talk to your dr. about metformin. I dont see why he/she wouldnt put you on it. I hope everything works out.
