Default Insulin-Resistance Diet

The first book on your list is great, Kat.

I've been doing it for two weeks, and it's easy to do, not overly restrictive and works.

Met + IR Diet + 2 weeks = -7 pounds

I'm happy. Highly recommend it.

Question I got the new IR diet book but having problems

I got the book and show how much you have to eat. MY God. I have only been eating 2 or 3 meals a day for a long time. I know that is not making things better.I want to know how you eat all the grain it tells you. You can only have 2 serving per meal and they want you to eat 6 . So if you eat them on 3 meals then you can eat any other carbs. because they take up all you carbs. It has really got me confused. Can any one help me? Maybe show me what you eat one day. Thank you.

Default reply to how to get enough grain servings a day

I use natures own light wheat bread for my grain.. 2 slices of this have the same amount as 1 slice of most other breads so you get 2 grain servings with less carbs. I also use wholewheat pasta for the same reason. Plus I am not sure if you know this or not but with grains you can subtract the amount of fiber from the total cards to get an actual carb count so this may help fit more grains in also. Other things I have done is add grapenuts to plain yogurt with some fresh fruit which allows you to add a grain and using fresh fruit instead of the fruit in the bottom yogurt allows you to control the carbs you are getting so you could add less fruit and more grape nuts if you needed to.
Hope this info helps
Jesse

I recently found a book called the Glycemic Revolution.

Anyone ever heard of it?

Are you referring to the "New Glucose Revolution"

I have read the above book. However, not the book you mentioned.

Yes, I meant the New Glucose Revolution. What did you think of the book?

Thumbs up

I like the book.

The origional book "Glucose Revolution" has been out a while. It introduced the concept of the Glycemic Index (GI -100 being the highest). The glycemic index ranks foods on how they affect blood sugar levels. So low GI foods are encouraged - you get a steady burn and not the "sugar highs & lows". However, the foods are tested alone and the food combined with others can change the GI. Example: potato has a high GI but eaten with meat the GI lowers. So, the GI isn't written in stone - for lack of better words.

I use the GI as a basic guideline and tool. The book has taught me a lot. Bread is actually higher on the GI than sugar. I suggest getting one of the books out of the library and examine it. If the only part of the book you really think is worth a purchase are the 55 pages of GI rankings - buy: The New Glucose Revolution Pocket Guide to the Complete Glycemic Index Values by: Jennie Brand-Miller, Ph.D.

You can also find good information about GI at www.mendosa.com

That is my two cents worth - hope it helped.

If yo have any other questions - feel free to ask.

Can you believe I have not been able to find a copy of the IR diet book in any of the bookshops in my town!!! Thank Goodness for Amazon! It is about the only diet book I don't currently own, lol! And it seems to be the most popular diet around these boards so I think it's about time I read all about it.

I just ordered the IR book...the first one. I am actually excited to begin this! I hope it's not too hard to understand. Diets that require too much thinking, usually lose me

I should get it in a few days.
