We did it! After six months on a low glycemic diet, and four months on metformin, I am gonna be a mommy!!!
I am so SO happy, and I am so grateful that my PCOS got diagnosed and treated so that I was able to get pregnant on my own with no fertility meds or anything!!
Hang in there ladies, be diligent and it will happen for you too!
Congratulations! I wanted to ask if you think low GI did any good w/o the met? My dr won't prescribe met for me, so I've got to try alternatives...
Sarah
Low carbing definitely worked for me. I went off BCP about three years ago. It took progesterone for about 3 cycles to bring on af at first, and then I did have my period very irregularly, but once I started low carbing, I actually managed to get a semi regular cycle (28-38 days). Once I got on met (i.e. for the past 4 cycles) I got my period on the 18th of each month.
So Sarah, I guess my answer is that it definitely makes a difference! Whether it brings on AF on its own is another question. I forget if you mentioned whether you are IR or not.(I have been following the thin ttc thread all along), in which case it would be my impression that it would help much more.
But it is always worth a try!

Leavin the site now due to new diagnosis...Thanks for all the support while I've been here!
Congrats!! It is so wonderful to hear success stories. I too am a thin cyster. Low Carbing since 1/1/04 and 1000 mg met since 2/1/04. No period so far but feeling very energetic. I have not felt that way in a long time so something must be working. I hope you both have a very healthy and happy 9 months. Spread some of your good luck dust my way please!!
Congratulations to you both, I hope every thing turns out wonderful for the both of you!!
I am currently diagnosed in 3/04 and actually have been on my period since Jan 31!!! I went in to the doctor and explained this and he told me about PCOS, and put me on Metformin 500mg three times a day, He says this will help regulate my insulin and within a few months I should hopefully wind up pregnant. I am very excited everytime I hear news about someone else getting pregnant while on Metformin. Do you think I will eventully stop my Period?
Brenda - That was the first thingI asked about when I found out I was pregnant. The short answer is "I will until 12 weeks" the long answer is: my RE (she is a RNM) told me two of the three MDs she works with take their patients off, one suggests staying on met. It is what they call a category B drub, so it has not been proven harmful (that is my way of putting it) and as they say it lowers teh risk of miscarriage in pcos women. I decided to go with that side effect. My RE suggested to stay on till week 12 and then stop. As it works out, I am going to run out of my prescription right around then, so I will go with that. I am definitely staying away from all othe rmedications though (despite some nasty headaches over teh weekend).
thorn - how are you feeling so far? Any bet news? They pocked me today for mine, i will find out tomorrow.
Thanks for all the congrats everyone! Some of you I recognize from the TTC posts. Keep going and don't give up!
Rocklin - I am glad you got a diagnosis. I hope teh met works for you and gives you a break from AF, no fun!
all the best!

Hey you can't be that far from being a thin cyster!!! Look at your weight loss success, that is awesome! You are almost at your goal! That looks like a great accomplishment to me!!!
So just take it one weightloss challenge at a time, and you will get there!

my doc didn't want any betas... the pee tests I took were good enough for her!
so far I'm feeling fine... a little more tired, some boob soreness and peeing more (although I'm drinking more water too) but nothing really out there as far as symptoms. howabout you zebra?
I will stay on at *least* through the first trimester, but ideally I would like to stay on a low dose of met (500mg maybe) through the second and third trimesters as well.
there is some evidence that it lowers the risk of gestational diabetes. I will have to discuss it with my doctor of course, but that is what I would like to do.
Just got my second beta number today and I went from 520 on Monday to 1199 today (wed.). I have been cordially invited to schedule my first ultrasound for next week. So we will see what that might bring.
Symptoms? Oy! My boobs are definitely sore. Some days more than others. I was just complaining to my DH that I can't make it more than an hour without going to the bathroom, and that is without drinking more... I am really bad with drinking enough, I really need to change my habit on that, but it will be hard, considering how much I have to pee already...
Definitely tired, and naseaous. I constantly eat protein snacks to not get sick, but I have not gotten so sick that I had to throw up or anything.
I am surprised your doctor doesn't want any betas. When I went in to schedule my apts, the nurse at teh desk said the same thing, that the HPT was fine, but my RE insisted on a beta. Might just be her though.
One of my worries is spotting. I have been told it is pretty normal, as long as it is spotting and no full on AF, but it is an indicator of later trouble in the pg. I have been spotting for teh past two days, and RE is aware. Good thing teh beta went up, so that makes me feel a lot better. I am definitely pushing for teh u.s next week (RE said it was up to me if I wanted to do one this early, I said yes).
Now as I mentioned tiredness as one of the symptoms... I am off to bed. Good Night!
