I'm on met and clomid and I know I've screwed this month up because I ate heaps of carbs. I'm usually fairly good but for some reason...not this month! Anyhoo, I want to get back on the low carb wagon. I only have an IR gut to lose not much more. All motivation seems to be around losing weight.
My question:
How do you maintain a low carb lifestyle? What motivates you? Losing weight and looking great are wonderful motivators. I'm not so enamoured by getting pregnant. Any tips?
Suz

I too am thin and try to eat low carb, for me I like to snack alot and have things ready really quickly when Im hungry so I bought healthy snacks like nuts and I make meals and freeze them so they are like home made low carb TV dinners.
Thanks! And what about when you can't be bothered low carbing. How do you keep your mind on sticking to a low GI diet to get pregnant/better? What drives you to do it in the first place?

I have a serious sugar problem, any hints about sticking to a low GI diet would be great. I tend to eat way too much, especially at work. Of course no one really notices cuz I'm thin. Except my DH who knows how awful I feel afterwards.
Personally, I don't worry about eating low carb. I concentrate on eating a balanced, healthy diet, full of good carbs. So I can't help you with low carb motivation! I know I just could never do it (unless I had to, medically). good luck!

I'm with you Sheepie. A well-balanced diet works better for me as well. I eat carbs that are whole grains, I follow the whole "slow carb" not "low carb" mind set because I think it's more realistic long term for me. I do stay away from white breads, pastas, potatoes, etc. and sub them for more whole versions that havent' been stripped of all their nutrients. I also try to eat lots of fruits, veggies and nuts. I think if you gradually change your favorite "bad" foods for healthier versions, rather than trying to do it all at once you might have better success.
Also, have you taken a look at the book the Fertility Diet? I know some pcos girls think it's bogus and some swear by it, but it does talk about the different carbs and what type of proteins to stay away from. There is a whole section on pcos and ir in it. The doctors also recommend looking at the big picture and to not obsess about the numbers. I don't totally follow it but it did help me make better choices overall.
Hope this helps, take care.

Thanks for all the tips girls. It's helpful! I ate a whole packet of biscuits the other day and then again the day after. Now it's stopped me from Oing on clomid and met. Ahhhh!
I'm going on a low carb diet for the next 15 weeks. I occassionally eat some rye bread, grainy bread on it. It's hard but it works.

I read your post ands thought "oh, she must be aussie" as you used the word "heaps" - I haven't heard that since I travelled in Australia. Good memories, Sydney is my favorite city I have ever visited.
I have little insight on the low carbs issue - I have been limiting refined carbs but eat a decent amount of complex carbs....
Good luck!

The only time I was ever able to do REALLY good on it was after ttc for over a year and then getting diagnosed. I was so desperate to get pregnant that I would do anything. I've never been able to get back into it with the same fervor since.
Would any of you be interested in being a diet/exercise buddy? Or maybe if more than one of you is interested we could start a thread. I'm thin(ish) and non-IR (although my doc says the tests are unreliable anyway so I am on met). I lurked on some of the diet/exercise buddy threads but they seem to be for women trying to lose large amounts of weight or following certain diets. I don't follow a particular diet, but am trying to control my carbs, eat well overall for fertility (and general health) purposes, and start exercising. I'm not doing well on my own. I can't/don't seem to stick to it. I have some ideas though and it would be nice to talk to others about it.
Any takers?
