Maddy,

I don't have particular plan. This was observations from when I was younger. I do think there are Plans out there though that are "French based". There was book earlier this year I think. My family is European so I used to travel much more than I do now.

As a former RD( now fulltime mom) I have seen people come through in pain and desperate to lose weight despite doing everything " right" according to the USDA. I say horsehockey to the ADA now. You cannot isolate nutrients in such a way as the medical establishment likes to.

There are some people who truly have metabolic issues, but we do tend to self induce them by bad habits. just as we can make ourselves ill with stress and worry.

Our overall diet plays a major catalyst in our whole makeup. Some people can eat Cheetos and live to 110 some cannot. We need to wake up to what we put into our mouths. Faux sugars that cause Diarrhea, fake fats the strip the body of vitamins, foods the are colored and flavored artificially, diet Sodas. Dump them in the garbage. Our bodies create antibodies to many of these products and cause health issues or gain weight.

Those of us with PCOS have helped to mess up our own metabolisms and would do better on a higher veggie, protein, fat and moderate starch. It may need to be tweaked, but this whole idea of needing mini meals and snacking is really only for Diabetics and Hypoglycemics. The whole country does not have Insulin Resistence. Not even all people with PCOS have it. Most pre-diabetic and many overweight people with PCOS do. Losing the weight sensibly and slowly with real food will heal our metabolisms. Carnivore or Veggie can eat real food and lose. We just need to be smart. Most people here are very smart and are trying to fix themselves. That is admirable. I say do it first by reading up on PCOS, take meds if you needs to and eat real.

Have you heard of the Slow Food movement? There is a reason it is growing. It is a response to people being sick to death of the fast food and food manufactuers dictating what to eat that is making us fat and sick.

We don't need nutri system, or Jenny Craig, W.W helps a few, but overall most "Diets" don't work except for the person who wrote the book. People who write these book expect people to make major changes in their lives for their book. Except for the common sense of watching portions and getting some exercise these plans fail 95% of the population. 10 new books come out all the time. How many of the books on the NYT bestsellers list are diet related? There is no magic book or plan.

I am tired of seeing women live in terror of eating yet grab for the newest woman's mag with "breakthrough Diet secrets, miracle weight loss plan"! next to a picture of the newest dessert. Think about how ridiculous and sabotaging that message is.....

I'm not going to do it any more and I have lost weight by ignoring all the lousy advice.

I hope other women can be as brave to shirk the established Diet industry.

Wow, that is an awesome view on the diet industry! You are very passionate in your beliefs.

And, I think you hit it right on. There is no magic book or plan. Everyone is different and what works for one person might not work for the next.

Default Hyrdrogenated Oils

I have been trying to eat low fat and low carb things for a couple of months now. My DH and I recently learned that if you look on the back of what your about to buy at the grocery store look at the ingredients and if it has partially hydrogenated oils. DO NOT EAT IT!
Those things cause the kind of fat that is REALLY HARD to rid of! Really if it has Hydrogenated anything. Its really bad for you. We have a subscribtion to Discover mag. and it said they did testing and gave one mouse nothing but food that contain hydrogenated oils and another one that didn't and the one that at the hydrogenated foods died a lot sooner and had numerous health problems.

Have you found any information about switching to an organic-only diet to help with PCOS? I recently read (can't remember where, though; sorry!) that PCOS may be linked to pesticides and growth hormones found in food today. Women can pass it on to future generations of women by eating these foods during pregnancy. One way a PCOS woman can prevent passing it to her daughter is by eating organic-only foods during pregnancy. Is this true?

I really don't want to be on Met XR for the rest of my life. I also don't want to be on herbal meds (which I've never taken before). I just want to eat and feel healthy like everyone else. I know that may not be possible, but I'm thinking that an organic-only diet (or at least 75% organic) would reduce my need to take medication.

There's a connection between behavior disorders (including ADD and ADHD) and ear infections in infants and children and the types of food eaten. When they switch to an organic diet, the behavior disorders stopped and the ear infections stopped (or lessened).

There's also a connection between degenerative diseases for aging adults with the type of diet.

Here's a couple links I've recently found if you wanna do some reading:

http://organic.org/
http://www.organic-center.org/newmission/
http://allorganiclinks.com/

The idea of organic is also appealing due to the scary predictions of our near future on this planet!

Thank you Maddy! You are a diet/nutrition angel! What do you think of the Schwartzbein Principle vs. IR Diet?

Try the southbeach diet and I do the body by glamour workout program. Its really helped me. If you have a problem area then find excersises for the area and do them extra and with more reps. This works for me but in my opinion and through all the articles and books I've read this is really what you have to consider before any diet or exercise program.

Body shape: there's apple, hourglass, pear and ruler. I've been told and have taken quizzes that I'm both pear and hourglass. My measurements now are 34C-26-37. The reason my chest is now 34inches is because I've been doing pushups since this november every day and doing to sets of 50 reps. I know my waist will be at 24 when I work it out a little more.

check your ancestery and family body shapes: my greatgrandfather was a full-blooded cherokee and I have Powhaten on my mothers side, not mention irish, english, and israeli-german. Most of my ancesters are native american. This means I have the TRIBAL BOOTY or ghetto booty. A butt that brings J. LO to shame. Any one who comes from a tribal ancestery (native american, central american, hispanic, or african) your more than likely going to gain the most weight in your butt. So find a diet thats right for that and do extra excersises that will help that area. For me its jogging, squats, and kickback with weights. As for my family, on my mom's side they all have the Tribal booty and are either overweight or small in their upper body. On my mother's other side there all pretty little. On my dad's side everyone has an athletic build and are naturally muscular. The women all have huge breasts. One side is tall and the other is both short and tall.

Remeber to check your BMI for your healthy weight.

You might have to try different diets to find one that works: I tried Atkins,Weight Watchers and South beach. Atkins didn't work, Weight watchers I lost 15 pounds then put them back on, and on South beach I lost 73 pounds and hopefully counting.

When it comes to excersise you need to at first take it easy. Try 20min. of moderate to brisk walking for 1-2 weeks until it becomes easy. Then try to move up to brisk walking or jogging for 45min. but slowly do so. In between try intervals, like walk for 5 mins at a speed of 3.5 mph then the next 5 mins at a speed of 3.8 mph. Keep doing this until it gets to difficult or your too out of breath. Then slowly go down in speed in intervals. you should always do a five min warmup and 5min cooldown. THen try and find a strength program that works for you.

If you want check out the body by glamour workout at www.glamour.com and to find your BMI and body type try www.ivillage.com
Hope this was helpful

Thank you for all the great info! I'm going to start the South Beach Diet as it seems to be in line with what we should be eating: whole grains, unrefined foods, lots of veggies, lean chicken/fish, & red meat minimally.
