Default A different kind of adoption (pet mentioned)

Dh and I have a 14 year old Boston Terrier and went online today to find a BT rescue. We submitted our application for the an adoption and HOLY COW! It was almost as bad as what I have seen to do for a human! CRAZYYYYY!

Just some lighthearted humor today. But maybe if this will go good we will get the guts up to do our paperwork to do the Guatamala adoption .

Totally Loco!

I am looking into adoption of a fur baby myself, now I am kinda weary! I guess I'll see how it goes!

Good luck on both adoptions! You definitely deserve both precious miracles!

Blessed Be

What a cute baby! I could just snuggle and huggle and love on her! My baby has gone deaf but it is so cute at times too and her face is so gray. She will be 15 in October and when she goes I will have her cremated so that I can keep her with me. When I die, she goes with me in my casket. I know that sounds kooky, but I love this dog! I finally told Dh that I love him more than Buttons and whispered in Buttons ear (not really).

I know exactly what you are talking about!!!! It was so much red tape to get a danged stray animal. They should be begging you to take the poor animal, instead by making it so hard to get a pet they are almost forcing you to buy one from a kennel. That's what I ended up doing! It is rather ridiculous.

One of the main things rescues attempt to do is do place an animal in a forever home. Many people adopt on the spur of the moment and then "get rid of" (I HATE that expression) the animal when they tire of them. Many places will turn someone down just for using the expression "get rid of". I have worked in animal rescue for decades and am sick of the phone calls from someone who has an animal they don't want to keep. They almost all say the same thing - we just love him and he's really cute and we want to find him a really, really good home - will you take him? We can't keep him because - we're moving, just got married, just had a baby, I'm allergic, etc. I'm always waiting for the phone call where the person says the animal isn't all that cute, they really don't care about him and they don't care what kind of a home he goes to. Because if they really cared, they 'd be keeping the animal.

That is why there is so much screening at rescues. The shelters (pounds) that let people just walk in and adopt have a high return rate. It's sickening. I have never bought from a breeder and never will. Rescuers are the ones who have to clean up their mess. They contribute to the problem and it's just insane. Thousands of animals are killed daily because people don't keep their commitment to them. We'd rather the animal stay at the rescue longer or be euthanized than beg someone to take them who will tire of them in a few months or years.

You ask people why they have deer heads on the wall. They always say, "Because it's such a beautiful animal." There you go. I think my mother's attractive, but I have photographs of her.

I know the thread title says this is about a pet so I'm trying not to sound too sensitive here....but could you please move this post to GTKY?

I really, really, really am not trying to start trouble. I am just cringing at the fact that this discussion is being held in a forum about adoptive children. PLEASE, no one take this personally....I've thought about this post for 2 days and it's really touching my heart strings.....thanks!!

PS---Laural, submit your paperwork for Guat! You'll do just fine!
