I was diagnosed with PCOS in 1995. I have had regular ultrasounds and they all show those wonderful pearls on both my ovaries. I just got a call from my doctor that my last ultrasound showed that my right ovary still has a lot of cysts on it, but that my left ovary is completely clear!? They were extra thorough as the ultrasonographer was not sure what was going on either. So, I was wondering if anyone else out there has had this happen to them? I haven't heard of cysts disappearing, but maybe someone else has. Thanks for your help!
Ive had it happen myself. 2005 had the cysts and an apt 2 months ago there were no cysts and my new doctor asked if I was sure that I had PCOS altogether. I figured that in 2005 I wasnt on the pill and had no period for over a year and had cysts and 2 months ago I was on the pill and thats why there was no cysts.
Thanks for your response! I can't wait to see what my bloodwork shows since my ovaries seem to look better than before. I haven't been on metformin for a couple years or bc for over 10. The dr wants to put me back on metformin, so we'll see after the bloodwork what happens.
My cysts went away, too. When I was Dx'd, both ovaries had the string...
I was on Demulen/spiro for a few months, and then switched to just flutamide for about 8 months. During that time, I also adopted a super healthy diet/exercise routine, and lost 90 pounds. When I went back in for tests: no cysts, labs were 'better than' normal, and I've remained med free for close to 10 years. The only problem that creeps up from time to time is my androgens get whacky if my weight goes up too high. When I drop the weight, the symptoms go away.

I found out thru my homeopath that I am allergic to wheat. For a while I was very faithful about eating GF, but have since slacked off. I remember now that when I cut it out, I did drop 10 - 15 pounds fairly quickly. I'll have to get serious about eating GF again! Thanks for the reminder!

Last time I was on metformin, I also got my periods back - they were 40 - 47 days between, but at least they were "regular". I'm going in to my dr again this week and hopefully he'll start me up again!
All of your stories has inspired me. For a newbie if gives me hope. I can not wait to get down to a healthy weight again. Thank you all for telling your wonderful news!

I had cysts on my ovaries--had a lapo in November in which the Dr. drilled the cysts, and just showed a dominant follicle in my most recent follicle scan--without the string of other cysts..so, I'm guessing they aren't returning with the use of metformin...hope that helps.

Since I have been on Metformin, I just have the normal follicle growth every month, but that is also with the use of femara or clomid. I don't think I have had the string of pearls looking ovaries since I was diagnosed. I did take femara for 2 months before I had an u/s that showed that I had the polycystic ovary (string of pearls), but when I started the metformin, that went away.

I went to the Dr today and got even more strange news. I have always dreaded hearing the hormone levels and such from the bloodwork every year. So, I went in with that same expectation, but was absolutely shocked at the results. ALL my hormone levels are normal!?!?!?
Has anyone else experienced this? I haven't been on any meds for several years. I did see a homeopath for a year and she claimed to have "cleared" my system. I don't know what to think? Is it possible to have screwed up hormone levels for 12 years and then have them all of a sudden clear up? Any advice is welcomed! Thanks in advance!
