Default Disappointed at Dr's appt re:Hair

I just went for my first endocrine appointment in almost 10 years. Had been on BCP's and then had 2 kids (thank god it was fairly easy for me), and now the PCOS symptoms are back full swing 2.5 years after 2nd child and I'm not back on BCP's.

So, she's going to start me on Met, but said there was really nothing much to do about the Hair Loss issue. Just need to work on loosing weight. I realize that is the main thrust, but if it was that easy we'd all by thin! What do I do in the meantime as all my hair falls out.

I've read about different shampoos, but am just really disappointed that she had no advice in this area.

Am I expecting too much? This is kind of why I hadn't gone back in so long as the first Dr. just said "lose 30 lbs then come back and see me" Great help dr!

I've read about Spiro, but she didn't even mention this.

THoughts?

Thanks
Sue

I haven't been to an endo in a few years, but what I remember was essentially the same thing--lose weight, and take BCP, Met, and spiro. One thing I've learned (and someone correct me if I'm wrong) is that Met and weight loss addresses the underlying hormonal imbalance. BCPs and spiro kinda mask the symptoms, because once you get off, the symptoms came back. I took Yasmin, Met, and spiro for awhile, and lost weight (and unwanted hair). I thought all was well. I got preggo, had my baby, and since then, I only lost 10 lbs. of baby weight, and gained lots and lots of unwanted hair and irregular periods. Right now I am just researching, trying to eat healthy and exercise to hopefully help my symptoms. I hope you find the information and help you need!

I think I spent way too many years in denial while I was on BCP's. Figured I'd have time to change things later. Now later is here!! I'm starting metformin later this week, just getting a little paranoid about the side effects. Thanks for your input.
