My doctor mentioned it this past weekend when I was in the hospital (with asthma and bronchitis), and we're going to discuss it more thoroughly on Monday, because I have had such a hard time trying to lose weight and everything. Are there any questions I should ask or whatnot??

Just wanted to encourage you. I love it. Makes me not hungry. Means I have to actually force myself to eat.

I started Byetta 2 days ago, and so far I don't see a difference in my appetite. I am also not nauseated. Am I just fortunate to not have side-effects? Or am I not going to see any benefit, either? Did it take a while before your hunger dropped off? Lately, I'll admit, I feel like I've been given a lot of stuff to do/meds to take, but not a lot of concrete information about them...I appreciate every tip or bit of information. thanks

*sigh* Well I brought it up this time and he wants me to wait another month before giving it to me, because part of the reason I've been so uncontrolled is because of steroids and being sick. I really want to try and get pregnant next year but my blood sugars are still out of whack with out the steroids right now. I have tried Humilin R and Lantus they worked for a bit but theyre sooo darn expensive considering I had to use both of them (40.00 each refill and depending on my numbers I was refilling the Humilin twice a month some times). I know the Byetta isn't cheap, but I've heard all kinds of good results from it. I just want to get controlled. I haven't been on any insulin at all til I was hospitalized (with the asthma) they were giving me Novolog, but then when I was released, I was just told to take the Metformin. My numbers are not doing soo great and I'm really worried about the damage that it's doing to my body. I really think about finding a new doctor, someone who's a lil more proactive on the matter because the doctor is leaving it one hundred percent in my hands and I can do what I can on my own as far as diet and exercise or what not but right now I NEEED help!

misty, i know this is a bit late... i hope you are doing well. i don't know if you have insurance that covers it, but without it byetta is approx. $200/month plus the cost of needles (i think i paid about 36 for 100 needles.). it's definitely worth a try... just be sure to stop the byetta when you are actually ready to ttc b/c it hasn't been extensively studied in pregnancy and might cause birth defects.
no matter what medications/interventions you choose, i agree that you need to find a doctor who will work WITH you on getting your health controlled. are you seeing an endocrinologist?

I'm not sure if my insurance will cover ti either I guess thats something I need to check into. WOW 36.00 for needles?? Where do you live? I can get a box of 100 for approximately 12.00, I actually have 3/4 of a box now because I was on insulin earlier in the year. I'm on levemir now but it is just at bed time and it's not helping at all I'm still getting morning number of 170!!

I must say... soulcysters has been the best thing that's happened to me in a long time first off all.... I just had to get that out because I am so excited that I have someone who "gets it" and second of all, I am so stoked!! I've been looking into byetta because my husband is a medical assistant and he has heard wonderful things about it... especially in the weight loss department! all hail byetta!! LOL anyways, good luck to everyone and I love you all!!!
I convinced my Doc to prescribe Byetta to me. I filled the script bought the special needles, and tried it. I went two weeks in pain with my stomach. It burned constantly, ached constantly and I could not eat. I lost 25 pounds in those two weeks, but I had to stop taking it. It was just too dang painful. I hope ya all never have to experience those side effects that I had to do.
I have had my 3rd set of Lupron injections to stop my chronic pain with PCOS. Doc says because I have been feeling so good with the injections, and my facial hair has subsided some, my pain is gone, my moods have improved, and I am losing weight, he will agree to do a hysterectomy (even though I am only 30). A little nervous to do this, as I still really want to have children but, the pain of everything is driving me absolutely crazy. I had to decide to make myself better and focus on Foster care for children. My mood swings were driving a wedge between me and my husband. I was actually losing my temper so eeasy and almost becoming physically violent with my husband. Most of all these bad things have subsided with these injections. Although the doc says we could still get preg while on these injections, I have no hopes or expectations that will happen. So I meet with the doc on dec 4th to schedule the surgery, he will do a salpingoophorectomy. (take everything, ovaries, uterus, tubes, the shebang). I won't do it until feb, after taxes come back so I can pay my percentage at that time. Has anyone considered doing this?
I'm trying to talk my dr's into the whole hysterectomy thing. I'm done having babies. Tubhes tied and all (sorry my Michael helped).
I have had a good effect from the byetta. My periods have even returned. But now because I also have endometriosis, I've had to have a iud put in. YUCK! That hurt.
Anyway, I didn't get that "benefit" of being full and nausea until I was up to the 10 mcg doses.

I started Byetta at 5 mcg about 2 months ago. I've lost 19 lbs so far and am starting the 10 mcg dosing tomorrow. I had a lot of nausea and complete loss of appetite the first month, but this month, most of that went away. My bs numbers have been very near the normal range (in combination with following my meal plan and 500 mg of met 2 times daily). I'm lucky to have a family doctor that is so proactive in treatment. Good luck to you.

*shrug* my doctor brought Byetta up again this past thursday but then he doesn't do anything about it. However they started me on Amaryl (pill) and it's been helping keep my controlled for the most part, and thats something good because I've been on steroids with it, and this is the first time I've had some relief with the blood sugars while on steroids. I'm even getting better results with the 1 mg of Amaryl with breakfast than I did with the insulin and everything. I just don't know if the doc is going to keep me on Amaryl after I get off the steroids, but I'm going to beg him to. I've had the best morning numbers ever!!! Theyre actually on the low side of normal. sooo I'm hoping and praying he will leave me on it.
