Default dissapointed with first round of Clomid...

Hey everyone! I'm CD21 on my first round of Clomid and no ovulation. I know that it takes time, I'm just dissapointed. My insurance (which is covering everything) requires me to stay on 50mg of Clomid for 3 full months before upping my dosage to 100mg. Hoping for more luck next month!

((hugs)) It's great that your insurance covers everything but a shame that you have to go through two more months on a clomid dose that didn't work. 50 mg didn't work for me either but I was able to go up to 100 mg the next month, which did the trick! Sorry you have to deal with this frustration. Hang in there!

I've been told that upping the dose doesn't necessarily help with ovulating anyways. It's one of those things that if it's going to work for you, it'll work at any dose. I don't know if I believe that.

I'm on round 3 right now. The first round didn't O, second I O'd on CD30, so you may still have a chance!
    Metformin 1500mg since November 2006
    Clomid Round 1 (100mg) March 2007 (BFN)(didn't O)
    Clomid Round 2 (100mg) May 2 (BFN) O'd on CD30
    Clomid Round 3 (150mg) June 15...CD50 BFN--a bust
Metformin XR 2000mg starting July 31
    Clomid Round 4 (150mg) August 12
    SURPRISE--BFP on 10/2!!
    It's a GIRL!!! (oops!)

The way it works, if you don't O on 50 , then they bump you up 50 mg every cycle until they find a dose that will hopefully work for you.

What does your Dr say about this? Is he willing to write you an rx for 100mg of clomid that you can get filled on your own (do not run it through your ins). This is odd because typically you should only use clomid for 6 consecutive cycles, so if you not o'ing on 50, and you don't o on 100 (and they make you do 3 on 100) then that is your 6 cycles and then you have to take a breal for awhile.

Thanks for the encouragin words and advice. I'll call my doc and get a blood test to make sure I didn't O. I'm using the CBFM which says I didn't. I'd be willing to pay out of pocket for a higher dose. It does seem silly to waste all that time if it's not working. I've already wasted time with a missed diagnosis of PCOS from my primary care. I'm not getting any younger.

I didn't O until day 22 of my cycle, and I know a lot of people don't O until even later! Think positively - maybe it'll still happen! Good luck. On the flip side, that stinks that they won't cover more than 50 mg- seems silly, because if it doesn't help you, it's kind of a waste of time! Grrrrr. How frustrating.

    Best of luck to you!

Clomid has a tendency to make you ovulate a little later (like in the 20s). I wouldn't have ovulated until probably around CD24 or so this last cycle if not for the trigger shot.

Also, I don't believe it's true that Clomid either works for you or it doesn't. I ovulated at both 50mg and 100mg my first two rounds, but didn't on the third (also at 100mg). I took 150mg for rounds 4 & 5, and ovulated both times. There are other girls around here (in my support thread) who've ovulated on varying doses. I think it's just all a bit of chance each time you take it.

    Don't give up yet! GL!

I would definitely ask if your doctor could up your dosage- because if you can only take clomid for 6 continuous cycles, then you don't want to waste time. My insurance doesn't cover clomid and it was under $30..which isn't too much considering it did work for me!

You may still O - I didn't O until CD25-26. It's stinks that you O so late, because it makes your cycles longer, but fingers crossed!

My health coverage doesn't cover my clomid at all - I think 100mg cost me about $86 - maybe you could buy one on your own and let the insurance co pick up the other (?).

i did five cycles of clomid in 2005 with no luck. I havent wanted to go back because emotionaly it is very hard to go to the doctor and find out you don't even have follicles. My sister on the other hand.. who also has PCOS was ususing it at the same time and got pregnant on her second cycle. I was happy and sad at the same time!

My insurance doesn't cover Clomid, but I got the generic at Target fairly inexpensively. Call around to various pharmacies. I got a range in prices from $35.99 at Target to $110 at Wal-greens.

I also didn't O on 50mg, so he added metformin to my regimine and bumped up the Clomid to 100mg.

Yes, hot flashes are probably the most common s/e of Clomid. For me, and for several others I've seen comment about it, they seem to stop once you ovulate. GL--and keep a fan on!
